Desserts at AKL

Hey there Hi there Ho there...

My GF and I are staying at AKL for 11 days and 10 nights starting Thursday 8/26. Our first sit down, PS meal is dinner at Boma. Although surprises are always nice, I'm kind of a fussy eater and don't want to get my hopes up too much. The dinner choices themselves sound really good. I mean id worse comes to worse, they've got chicken and beef and soup and rice and mac & cheese...comfort food lover's dream, right? But I was wondering about the desserts. Is anyone willing to say what's in the Zebra Domes and Simba's Paw Prints, and any other desserts they may have there?

If you like chocolate, you'll probably like Zebra Domes. :) They aren't too heavy and are definately one of thier specialties. They taste something like mocha petite fores with a light white chocolate covering. I usually don't like "coffe" desserts and this is far from it, so go for it! :) If you don't like it, I think they had great cookies if I remember correctly. :)

Have a blast!

Do a search for Recipe? in thread search.. I've posted the recipe for them. :D

Paw Print Brownies: (to be posted in the Recipe thread also

Brownies

9 oz. bittersweet chocolate
1 lb. butter
6 eggs
4 cups sugar
1 TB vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup cake flour

Frosting

1 cup heavy cream
6 oz. white chocolate
8 oz. semisweet chocolate
1/3 cup cocoa powder

Stencil with a paw-print design cutout

Method:

1. Melt chocolate and butter in a bowl set over a pot of hot water on the stove.

2. In a mixing bowl fitted with a whip, place the eggs, vanilla extract and sugar, and mix at medium speed. Continue whipping for about 3 minutes until light in color. Change the machine attachment to a paddle. Once the chocolate and butter have melted, add them to the whipped eggs.

3. Add the flour until well combined but do not overmix.

4. Pour the batter on a 12x16-inch baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

5. Bake in 350º F oven for 30-35 minutes. (This can be done a day ahead and kept in the refrigerator.)

6. To make the frosting, chop the white and semisweet chocolate into 1/2-inch pieces and place them in a bowl. Heat the heavy cream in a small pot. Once it is very hot, pour into the chocolate pieces to melt them. Stir constantly until all pieces are dissolved and cool to room temperature.

7. Ladle the frosting on the surface of the brownies and smooth evenly with an icing spatula. Place the brownies into the refrigerator to set the frosting.

8. Once the frosting is set, cut brownies into 3x3-inch squares and separate them. Place the paw-print stencil on each brownie. Place the cocoa powder into a sifter and dust the center of each brownie with the cocoa to create the paw-print design.

Slappy Magoo ( love that screen name  )

They do have some different offerings at Boma, but nothing super weird. Disney knows some people are not adventurous so they make sure to cater to those people as well.

You'd be surprised, the things that are 'different' at Boma are only slightly different that even a picky eater would not have a hard time trying things. Yet they are different enough for someone who doesn't want to the "standard fare" to be satisfied. It's a peaceful medium they have acheived.

I know it's been a few days, but I've been too busy to really check back. Catching up on all my work before the big trip, you know how it is...

I wanted to thank everyone who clued me in on the deserts. And Kevin, you're right, I kinda figured that the actual dinner options would be pretty familiar and it's a safe bet it'll all be great & not too dangerous for bland American taste buds.

Unfortunately, I hate-I mean LOATHE-the taste of coffee or anything with coffee flavor in it, so the zebra domes are out for me. My better half will probably love 'em though. But I suspect the Paw Prints will be a suitable substitute, hah hah.

Slappy,

I dislike coffee as well and had the zebra domes. I don't remember them tasting like coffee. Have the wife try them and let you know how strong of a taste they are :D

Slappy, I know exactly what you mean. I absolutly hate coffee. I feel ill when I pass a Starbuck and get the smeel of the coffee aroma. I work next to a coffee house and when they roast the beans, it makes me sick. I hate coffee.

But I love the Zebra Domes. And until I saw the recipe, I didn't even know it had coffee in them. Strange since I hate coffee so much, but I couldn't tell. Maybe I will when we go back in October and I get my chance to eat them again, now that I know that there is coffee in them. But last year I didn't know, I was eating them all week long, almost every day.

So I'd say give at least one a try. You can always spit it out. :hurl:

Splappy, I'm another person who does not like coffee. But damn! Zebra domes rock :D

Also I'd suggest you give your taste buds a try with some of the new things you will find at Boma. You pay the same no matter how much or little you eat, so it's a perfect opportunity to give something new a try.

Worst case being that you do not like the other things, you can then load up with the pasta and burger derivatives and it won't cost you any more :D

Oh yes, you can also find Zebra Domes in the food court, Mara.
