Deluxe Dining Plan Question

This is our first time getting the deluxe dp, and I know that for TS meals you get an appetizer, entree, and dessert per person. My question is, for the appetizer, can you get a soup/salad instead of one of the items listed under the appetizers? Another question is, we are having dinner at California Grill one night, and I LOVE sushi, I was wondering if you can get sushi as an appetizer? Thanks!

If an item is not listed as an appetizer it is up to the discretion of the restaurant. From my experience soups and salads are about 50/50 and sushi at CG is a no go. Your mileage may vary so it does not hurt to ask.

We've had sushi as an appetizer at CG on the Deluxe DDP several times, although the Dragon Roll and Deluxe Sushi Platter may not be allowed as dining plan appetizers. They were considered more as entrees.

I don't think you would have a problem ordering a soup or salad as your eligible app anywhere though.

We ate at Cali Grill in mid August and we were allowed to have sushi as an appetizer. There were only 2 sushi options that were not considered an appetizer on DxDP, but those were also the two most expensive sushi options. Everything else was fair game. Numerous people confirmed for us pre-trip that this is the norm. As for soup and salad, not sure how it is everywhere but I got cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier for my appetizer and DH got some sort of salad/greens.

all i can say is that plan is a ton of food. did it once and felt sick from all of the food i ate (not that is stopped myself. i mean, youre on vacation right?). if i do it again id do as many signature dining reservations i could. that way its not so much food!!

We get the DDP, and do at least one signature meal and save some of our meal credits for our departure day. That way, we're only eating 2 TS meals and a snack each day. Otherwise, we'd explode!!

We have a sig ressie for every day, so I don't think it will be too bad. Also, we usually save a bunch of our snack credits for the last day and load up for the drive home.

Yeah, I'd think that it will always depend on your server or the manager at any given meal. However, it seems that soups or salads (if they're not fancier bigger salads that could sub for a meal) are similarly priced or even cheaper than most appetizers at most restaurants. So I'd be very surprised if restaurants had an issue. The only exceptions would be, like I wrote before, if they're meal-sized salads as opposed to side-sized salads.
