Definitely not my finest moment

On the first day of our trip last week, DS14 became sick. He had a pretty bad cold that stayed with him the whole trip. On our first morning we had breakfast at Kona. I went to the gift shop to get some medicine and I saw Airborne. I never used, but DW says she heard it worked. I opened up the package and noticed they look a little like Tums, just thinner and longer. I assumed, without reading directions, they were chewable. I gave one to DS. Apparently they are supposed to be dissolved in water. Well he started chewing them. Imagine the reaction when it hit his stomach. We rushed to bathroom, but he didn't make it and vomited in walkway between Kona and Ohana. One more time in bathroom stall. Everything fizzed up in his stomach and came back out. After leaving bathroom surprisingly he felt really good. He ate a whole Tonga Toast and we were off to the parks. Really dumb move on my part, especially when picture on box showed medicine in glass of water. I officially take myself out of running for Father of the year award.

We usually go to Disney during cold and flu season and my wife always says "it wouldn't be Disney without someone puking." In fact, my BIL, who is local, calls WDW the cesspool of the world as tourists come from everywhere bringing their germs with them.

Hopefully your son was able to enjoy some of your trip. Nothing is worse than all that planning and then an illness, which you have no control over, effects your trip. So put yourself back in the running for father of the year, as we all have tried our best to "save" a trip for a sick child - with mixed results. :)

We did get a good laugh at breakfast, so it was kinda funny. He didn't really get sick from it. He just said his mouth kept filling up until he couldn't hold it. My BiL had some good cold medicine that worked pretty good for him, so he was able to enjoy the parks most of the trip. Definitely one morning we won't forget.

That is so funny to me! Bless his heart! We leave next Friday and last night I packed every different kind of medication I had here to take with us. I hope we don't need any of them!

I totally just had a great laugh. I think part of being a parent is doing the dumb parent thing unintentionally that earns us the looks of "Are you really this dumb?" from our little charges. I could write you a list of these things. How about DH accidentally overdosing our youngest when he was maybe 3 years old on Benadryl? Or, when I inadvertantly gave my oldest too much Vicadin a few years ago? Think we got parent of the year awards for those winning entries??? Hardly!

I laughed harder at this than I probably should have...don't worry; my dad has offered me peanuts before even though I'm allergic. Most recently was about two weeks ago when I was complaining I was hungry and there was little to eat around the house and he says, "Make yourself a PB&J." He was dead serious, and I just said, "Yeah, I don't want to stick myself with the epi pen, Dad." And then he got his embarrassed guilty look and laughed. He also pushed me off the swing when I was 3. I was unconscious for a few seconds...which he bothered to mention 10 years later. And my mom let me roll off the changing table. I turned out fine in spite of all this. I think;)

I'm sure when I'm a parent one day I'll make so many dumb mistakes...

Being a parent is like nothing else. You feel awesome like the World's Greatest then like the most pathetic moron all within the span of 30 seconds. The best is when the kids know and they give you that look. It's like, "Seriously, Mom?" Yep. I get that often. I have trained my teenagers who looooove to point out the complete stupidity of adults vs. their superior teenage knowledge :bored: that even when they know the adult is wrong, remember the respect the adults deserve and let us think we're not really stupid. Thankfully my teenagers have a sense of charity and *allow* us to feel somewhat intelligent a large majority of the time. :hilarious:

Let's just say we've all made mistakes as parents....
