We will be going December 17-20 (I think. We haven't made reservations) and I was wondering if it will be crowded or not?

I expect the crowds to really pick up that week. Because Christmas is on the following Saturday, I expect people will begin arriving early in the week.
Ugh.
I'll also be in WDW at that time (a nice long 3+ weeks!), so I hope to experience low crowds (pre Christmas week), insane crowds (Christmas -> New Year's Day) and dwindling crowds (post NY).

Historically the first two weeks of December are the least crowded. I expect by the weekend of the 18th, that the crowds will be quite strong. I would make my reservations soon if I were you. It's getting close and there may not be much to choose from at this point of time. If you need help with your reservations, please feel free to contact me.

I also conclude that the crowds will be strong; but the schools here as well as other places won't let out until the 21st. I don't know if this will make much of a difference; but my thinking is that with only one workable full week for parents of school age kids this Holiday season; the week of December 24 thru January 1 is probably going to be a killer as far as crowds go.

This is the best time to go to WDW! We have family in Florida and drove down every year from NY for Christmas (10+ years in a row). We always stopped at Disney! It never was crowded and looked so magical with all the decorations. However, it can get really cold. There were many times when we wore our ski jackets and even bought warm hats in the park! We didn't care because it was empty. I wish that my kids got out of school earlier but now vacation in NY starts on Dec 23.

I would not expect the crowds to be that week. With Christmas on a weekend, most schools are not out until midweek the week leading up to the holiday. This is different than the previous 3 years, when most schools were out the Friday before Christmas, and therefore, we had significant demand prior to the holiday.
Our current patterns for travel that we are seeing are the 26th of December - the 3rd of January.
