Declining Standards of merchandise.

im not going to lie, they need more park merchandise, attraction merchandise, and more non- hs musical/hannah montana, exc. I feel like its being shoved down my throat. i m a girly girl and love that stuff, but you can go to any store around the usa and buy it. wdw merchandise is different, if you don tget in during your trip, you have to order it through their mail order. i must say the quality for the most part is awesome, but they need a little work with branching out

I am actually disappointed in the quality of the merch. The t-shirts seem to be made of the thinnest material. I was looking forward to getting the Epcot- The 21st Century Began on Oct 1982 t-shirt a couple of weeks ago, and when I picked it up, the material just seemed SO thin and not good quality. It's not just WDW though, it seems that everywhere I go, all clothing anymore is made of very thin material. I miss the good, thick fabric t-shirts!
No kidding. The shirts I get at Hot Topic keep tearing under the arm
and yeah, I noticed this back in '05. Alot of the shops sell the same stuff. Not to mention things I can get at any old Wal-Mart for like, half that price x_x Last time though, it seemed a little better. At least in toys. I liked all the exclusive Star Tours and POTC figures they sold. But then, I don't ask for alot ^^;

There's a saying that eventually everything becomes the same. WDW used to be more of a boutique, with a couple parks and resorts. Now it's a massive department store with 20,000 plus hotel rooms and several parks. And they've taken on that mentality. Generic room cards. Stores selling generic merchandise. HSM, HanMont and Pirates everywhere. Slimmed down menus. DVC booths everywhere. This is what happens when you try to become everything to everybody.

I thought once WDW's contract with Champion for tee shirts and such kicked in that the quality would come back, apparently that was wrong.

Give it a little time. Merchandise is purchased/created by the company far in advance. It's likely that the merchandise currently on the shelves was still purchased before the announcement of the Hanes sponsorship.

I agree with many of the things that have been posted. I remember collecting (we still have them) different cups in each land of MK now they are one cup with all sections of the parks. No more adventure in trying to complete the set. We have definately cut back on our merchandise spending because the one of a kind feeling just isn't there. Besides the fact I am not forking out $70 for a hoodie I can get at home for 50% less.

not saying that you guys necessarily would, but i feel like if things werent as generalized, people would complain that disney is trying to gouge you by trying to get you to buy the "whole set".

I like the shirt but I am sure some one would find something objectionable about the pose pooh is in

I remember the days of yore when each shop on main street was one giant strip of stores with the same merchandise you can get anywhere else in the park

I wonder if this is working for Disney

I am wondering now how the 'per capita' spending now compares with just a few years ago? I, like most who have posted here, spent quite a bit in the past on what I perceived as more interesting, unique and better quality merchandise. My past few trips we've hardly purchased anything - for all of the reasons that have been stated here.

I have some older sweatshirts and t-shirts that I've had (and worn) for years that are still in good shape, so I know for sure that it was not always like this ...

The 'bright spot' in this whole analysis - this is one problem that should be easy to fix - the question is, do 'they' want to 'fix' it, or is revenue not reflecting our 'complaints'?

We need time for things to happen.
hmm..I've got to disagree to some extent. I have to say, I've never been a big fan of the character tees.
I am goofy enough without having him (or any other character) on my person:)
I know the shirts are thin as all heck ..but that's EVERYWHERE now a days.

I never buy any merchandise, but I LOVED all the RETRO shirts they have now.
This last trip
I got the
"enjoy the monorail"
"the 21st century began..."
and the retro "Magic Kingdom"
Oh and the HM wallpaper shirt...Which I mistakingly bought one size too small...My daughter was nice enough to take it from me though...:animwink:

The only thing I don't understand.. is why doesn't Space Mountain have a shirt...and the men's Splash Mountain shirts? They don't have anything subtle.....The women's ones are actually pretty cool brown and blue baseball style with just the blue logo!

No offense to anyone who enjoys the character shirts or the over the top Splash Mountain shirts - It's just not for me!

Actually my son would love that shirt - PPS is after all his favorite attraction!!!

Good T-shirt.
That would probably actually sell well, without the 'You wanted...' of course.
Maybe say 'Walt Disney World' there.

Do some more.
The WDW merchandising executives need help.
:)

Why is my joke shirt gaining serious positive reviews? This is why there is no attraction-specific merchandise. :lookaroun
