December weather

Because we are having ultra mild weather here in the South (at least in my neck of the woods) and because I am already planning on what to bring for my WDW vacation in December, I was wondering what the weather is like in WDW in early December. Is there one thing extra that I NEED to bring (like an umbrella or a jacket)?

Cannot emphasize this enough...LAYERS!! We have been there in December the past 4 years. 2010 broke cold temperature records, morning lows were in the teens! We wore winter coats and mittens walking around Epcot. It was funny.

2011 brought rain, and we were very glad to have raincoats and umbrellas. Last December was mild, though still wore sweatshirts at night. Best bet is to keep checking weather.com before you go!

The unexpected. Always a welcome. That is what we are used to here. It will snow one day (I know it doesn't snow in WDW...at least the real kind) and then two days later it will be 80 degrees. The weather did this for 3 weeks. Got to love the South!
I've never been to WDW when it wasn't HOT, so I'm looking forward to that aspect of the trip!

OK- a little farther west that you guys...we're in the Houston area...but, I used to live in FL. We also went to WDW Dec 7-13 in 2010 and were there last year right around Thanksgiving. I agree that layers will be your friend. You just never know what you're going to get.

2010 was downright cold...and I survived 4 winters in Syracuse, NY! :coldfeet: Ok- it wasn't that cold, but it was still VERY cold. I think they even had snow flurries around that time back in 2009. I know we had measurable snow in our area that year from the same system. Ultimately, in 2010- It was about 37 degrees at about 1pm on our arrival day when we were headed to MK. We froze our butts off the next morning waiting for the bus. It warmed up as the days went on and then another front came through. We were in our ski jackets after that! It wasn't quite as chilly when we went last year, but we had a couple days with temps in the 40s and 50s...so still layered up for warmth.

In December of 2010, I almost froze to death. I only packed flip flops and tshirts and it got to 19 degrees at night.

December of 2012 was in the high 80s and very warm. It felt like one of my October trips.

Everyone is right, layers are key.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Plan for EVERY kind of weather!! We are from south Louisiana so we are used to things changing on a dime and in Dec it is alot like that at Disney. We always now go in Dec and we have had It all in ONE trip. Went from warm/hot, humid, to rainy, to freezing cold and windy, then cool, then warm again! You get the picture. Lol We pack light jackets, heavy jackets, rain coats, jeans as you can wear those most days just change the type of shirt you wear or jacket. We bring short sleeves, long sleeves, etc. Literally have stuff for anything that may happen! We check the weather as it gets closer but that will not always be accurate once you get there as like I said it can change quickly and then the forecast is totally different. :)

Weather in Florida is unpredictable year round. The great thing about December is that it's the dry season. It's not hot and humid. It can rain, but not much and you don't get the afternoon thunderstorms everyday. The humidity is definitely low. The averages in December are 51 in the morning and 71 in the afternoon. The average cold front will push the temperature down into the 40's. If we get a strong cold front it can get down into the 30's. If we don't get one for a while then it can climb up into the upper 70's and 80's but it will be comfortable. The best thing is to watch the 10 forecast a few days out to see if you need some extra sweaters or not.

We thought we were prepared one year and ended up going on a shopping spree for sweatshirts and long pants. The shorts and t shirts were good until the sun went down and then we had to change clothes at the resort before doing the parks in the evening. The hot tub felt great at the end of the day.

Might be hot. Might be cold. May be warm during the middle of the day and cooler at night. No way to know.

You have to pack a little of everything.

Winter is a great time to stay somewhere that has a washing machine. :)

Yes, layers, layers, layers. The first day we were there last December we were stupid enough to wear shorts and t-shirts to the parks without bringing along jackets, and we all froze to death. It was miserable to be so cold, and we had to cut our touring short. The next day we were comfortable in t-shirts and jeans without jackets by day. The next day was shorts and t-shirts weather all day and night.

As others have said dress in layers. Also even if it is warm during the day plan to go back and change into warmer clothes for at night. I always bring ponchos but in november/December I also bring my rain jacket too.
