December Pools

Hi,

I am from Scranton, PA and have never been to Florida during December. This year we are planning to go from Dec. 10 - 19 and stay at the BCV. I was just wondering what the weather will be like. I know that you can't tell until you get there, but does anyone have a general idea after being there during december over a number of years if its a possibility of being warm down there? Also i know that they close down the water parks for rehab during this time, but are either of them open in December?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Winters in Florida are very schitzo. It's generally 70's-80's until a cold front comes though. Then it's 50's-60's for a couple of days before going back up to the 70's-80's.

I was at WDW last year during the first week of December and ended up having to buy a jacket because I got caught by a cold front. The best advice I could give is to pack for the temps in the 70's-80's, but bring some jackets and stuff just in case.

Hope this helps.

It's impossible to tell for sure, but I would bring both a jacket and a swimsuit...you just never know! Also, the pools are heated, with the "quiet" pools usually being in a protected area, so as long as you have a warm coverup, and the sun is shining, you should be OK.

I've lived here for over 20 years, and Christmas weather has been anything from beach weather to snow!

We were there briefly this past December, and we were sorry we hadn't brought our winter coats! Everyone assured us that the cold snap was very unusual, and that temperatures are usually far more moderate. Be prepared, though - I wish we'd brought warmer clothes!

Went at Christmas last year and I wish I'd brought more shorts. It was in the low 80s each day. The pool at BCV is open year round if I remember correctly.

Just as a side note. My best friend lives there and for a few years straight went swimming every day of the year but once when it was in the 40s. Of course, he is just a bit crazy.

The only time I was in FL during Dec., we had on sweatshirts every day, and didn't swim one time... but then I've been in Feb too when it was hot & you could swim, and another time very cold, and we wished we had winter jackets, much less our light jackets... brr! I'd say bring both too.

Last year Christmas week and first week of Jan were warm, almost hot. High 70s, even a few 80s. They told us the week prior was freezing and riany however, so we did luck out.

We wore shorts and sandals all day, and had a sweatshirt over our short sleeves when we left in the morning....when there was frost on the ground. I swam all the chances I could at Typhoon Lagoon and Caribbean Beach....and the Epcot Resort pools too, hahaha.

Thanks for everyones responses. The info will help. I guess I will just be ready for both and hope for some warm weather.

About the water parks though. Does anyone know if Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon are open in December?

Thanks,
Tim

Last season, Blizzard Beach's last day open was 12/27. Typhoon Lagoon was prior to that date.

On Dec 28, Blizzard Beach closed and Typhoon Lagoon opened.

It all worked out though, even though I never made it to BB.:xmas:

The pools are heated, but dont go expecting a warm bath, while you're not going to get hypothermia, if you're like me you probably wont want to get out of the pool (unless its to run to the spa)

We were their that same week Dec 2001 stayed at Poly and it was sunny and warm and great for swimming. (I understand 2002 was not that good, it was an El Nino year that that had something to do with it.) Win some lose some. Hopefully next Dec will be like 2001. Of course we were at YC Feb 2001 and really just wanted to swim in the pool there. It was cold and rainy every day, mid 50's. On the last day the sun came out and it got up into the 60's and we had to head to the air port at 1:30. We asked for a late check out (resort was not full that week) and we were in the pool until 12:30!!! Of course later we joined DVC and we love staying at BCV now!

Have a good trip and prepare for anything. If you are staying long enough hopefully you will get a few nice days and be able to use it.
