December crowds

I am sure this has been asked before, but I don't have much time to do the research.

We are thinking of going to WDW in December 2009. We are DVC members and would be staying in a villa. My question is what are the crowds like from Dec. 1-14? That is the value season for DVC so that is when we would like to go. Is there any special events that would draw large crowds during this time frame that I should be aware of. We usually go the last week in January, but have extra points next year and would like to take an extra trip around Christmas time to see the decorations and go to MVMCP.

Any info would help

I think the crowds would be quite managable but growing towards the end of your vacation. The Pop Warner events usually take place during the first couple of weeks in December which leads to a room shortage (book as soon as possible!) but doesn't affect the crowd levels in the park too much.

Overall that is a great two week period.

Yea, there are some great events happening during that time, but they don't significantly impact crowd levels.

Filming of the Christmas parade in MK Dec. 5-6 that affect that park.
As was said Pop Warner football and cheerleaders, but that impacts primarily hotels and busses.

All in all a great time, which is why I try to do it each year.

Thanks for the info. That helps. The crowds are so minimal when we go in January, that I was afraid they would be monstorous. And at that point I will have 3 small childrens under the age of 4.

the chances of getting a decently priced room now are very unlikely, i have a preferred room at allstar movies that i can't switch to a regular room due to the lack of availability.

nevermind, missed the part that said 2009

Hey,
I have a question for all of you frequent WDW visitors... We will be going to WDW Dec 14-22. The crowd calendar on touringplans.com shows pretty low crowds up until the 21st or 22nd. Other things I have seen make it sound like crowds will be picking up about the time we arrive. HOWEVER, I would think that Disney wouldn't offer free dining during that time (14th-20th)--or any time--if they were expecting crowded conditions...

We went in mid-Sept07, and crowds were not bad at all. Looking at the crowd calendar, this time figures to be comparable or even a little lighter. Do any of you guys have a feel for how it would compare? Now that I'm starting to get closer to final payment time, I'm starting to get a little nervous about huge crowds...

Thanks!

The crowds won't be bad for most of your trip. You will see the crowd levels increasing as it gets closer to the 24th, but the crowds will not be anything near the level of the week from xmas to new year's.

Are you sure about the parade being Dec 5 and 6? We were told a couple of weeks ago by a film crew in the MK that there was a change this year, that the entertainment portion in front of the castle would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and the following Saturday would be the parade taping. I'd be really interested if this is current info you have or if you assumed it would be the usual Friday and Saturday, as we will be there on Dec 5 and 6. Thanks!

As long as you avoid the AS and POP resorts, you'll be fine. You'll notice that on buses they can get loud... but the crowds are awesome... we're DVC members and this is our 4th year. We always go the 2nd weekend of December since you don't want to visit the MK when they are taping the parade. Nicer when the Tree is at the front of Main Street vs. over by the castle....

Worst part of the December time though are the brazlian tour groups.....

We are DVC members and always go Tuesday to Tuesday the second into the third week in December. This year is 9-16.

One year we were there Thursday to Thursday and that last day was PACKED compared to the rest of the prior week. For example we literally walked onto the rides all week long. The last day suddenly the wait for Buzz and Space was 90 minutes and we fully understood why the walkways are so large in WDW. Wall to wall people. First and last time we saw that.

With your current dates that would put you in the middle of bigger crowds. Not the biggest it gets, but definitely much bigger.
