Debunked Disney Facts

The top of the Castle can be removed in the event of a hurricane.

I don't know why but I was so disappointed when I found out this wasn't true. I was there many years ago when there was a threat of a hurricane and there was a crane right next to the castle. My father and I ate at the Contemporary and I remember just keep checking if the castle top was there. lol

Huh?
A look-a-like in ToT?
Where?

A sound-a-like, yeah, but the Serling footage was a direct lift from an episode of the show.

I thought the Rod Serling footage was performed by an actor portraying Rod Serling. I think Mouseplanet had an interview with the actor.

Nope. He just did the voice for the parts where Serling wasn't on the screen.
Anytime you see Serling, it's him and his voice lifted from the episode called "It's a Good Life."

Well a sound-a-like, yes, did the voice over. That is who they interviewed. Imagineers carefully picked what he would say and the clips they used to make it appear like the real Rod Serling was telling the story. Those Imagineers are very clever. ;)

There was a ring embedded in the concrete outside the haunted mansion that was part of the official backstory of the attraction...

The myth that I have made it my mission to fight: the Contemporary's modular construction was not meant simply to get the thing together faster/cheaper/whatever, but also so they could redecorate the rooms later by replacing the room modules. Drives me nuts, makes no sense, been debunked by no less than John Hench, but the myth will not die. Saw the myth repeated by Jim Hill, so I e-mailed him about it, and he said that while it didn't make any more sense to him than it did to me, he had heard the myth directly from Admiral Joe Fowler (who at that point was properly in a wheelchair with his legs covered by a blanket like Joseph Cotton in Citizen Cane).

Off the top of my head:

Somebody got their head cut off on Space Mountain...

If you hide a penny one day, it will be gone the next due to the superb cleaning procedures....

The Mickey head out front is replanted every night...

The hitching posts on Main St. are repainted every night....

Space Mountain is a clone of Matterhorn....

Holograms in Haunted Mansion...

Here's another one I can think of:

There are garbage chutes that lead to the underground Utilidors from all the trash cans. That's why you never see a Disney Cast Member emptying them.

As for the flags on Main Street, I heard that they were missing a star or had too many stars so that they were not officially US flags and didnt have to be removed.

oh, that is totally true.... my friend said he knew the person.

:D

that there was a secret apartment built in Cinderella Castle for the Disney Family at WDW.....It was planned that way, but because of Walt's Death BEFORE WDW was built, the plans changed. It only recently became an inhabitable space for the YOAMD promotion.

Yep, that one always cracked me up. I still laugh thinking about waht "creativity" Disney showed by doing that.:ROFLOL:

The Primeval World exhibit from the Disneyland Railroad was not cloned for the WDW Railroad because Imagineers didn't think reptiles would be exotic enough for the Florida residents.

Not botched, as I understand it.
They are made of nylon, which makes them technically flag-styled pennants. An "official" flag, which must be taken down, has to be of a certain thread-count material.
That difference, along with slight color variances, makes them pennants that can remain on display at all times.

At least that is how it was explained to me.....

A flag can stay up overnight so long as there is a light on it all night.

That is correct for the pre-show. However a look alike was filmed for the post show - however the show has been changed so that you only see a very brief glimpse of him as the doors close when you move to unload.

Actually, it doesn't need to be lit. The U.S. Flag Code is virtually unenforceable because of its contradiction with the First Amendment. There is a Supreme Court Precedent regarding that.
