NEW YORK (AP) Harry Potter was the center of seven novels, but he'll star in eight films.
The final book in the wildly successful series will be made into two films, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
Producers are expected to announce Thursday that J.K. Rowling's last "Potter" installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," will be split into two parts on the big screen. The first film is slated for release in November, 2010, with part two following in May 2011.
"It was born out of purely creative reasons," producer David Heyman told the Times. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book."
Filming began in September on the sixth "Potter" flick, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
"It's been brilliant," said star Daniel Radcliffe. "It's also, I think, the funniest of the films so far."
The "Potter" film franchise has pulled in $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

I'm very excited to hear this! I was worried about it being another short movie like the 5th one. This is the one movie they cannot butcher.

Ah, I was just about to come post this, but you beat me. This is the most exciting Harry Potter movie news since I found out that they were doing the movies!

Here's to hoping they can get everyone signed on, most importantly Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) and Alan Rickman. The Trio is already signed.

Hmm... I don't know if I like this or not. I wouldn't mind sitting through a 3 or 4 hour movie at all. Hopefully they might shoot them back to back so we won't have to wait too long before the second part.

They're filming them at the same time. The first one comes out Nov 2010, and the second comes out May 2011. About 6 months in between:(

After seeing how they chopped up book 5 in order to fit it into one movie, I'm willing to wait, as long as they get it right and don't leave anything out.

I may be the only one, but I feel like the "wandering in the woods" middle could VERY MUCH be cut. The finale could be a full 45 minutes, but i think the rest could easily fit in another 90 minutes or so. It all seems kinda fillerish in reading. Not as much as HBP is filler.

Another man's filler is another man's treasure. 2 films means that we can have scenes in the movie that actually would bring the source material properly to life. You can do things like the wedding, being on the run, Grimmauld Place (Harry discovering Lily's letter in Sirius' room), planning to infiltrate the ministry, the doe, Ron leaving, Godric's Hallow, etc. properly for once!

If you can, please list scenes that have thusfar properly been done justice. The only one that even comes close IMO, is the graveyard in GoF (mostly because of Ralph Fiennes acting); the rest have been rushed and contrived. In OotP, we missed out on so much...even key things. I want them to do a proper job on DH.

I know it'll be hard to wait inbetween the films, but it will make our goodbye to the series longer.

That's what I'm thinking. I just hope they make the 8th film the best of all, because the 2nd half of Deathly Hallows is so amazing. I literally sobbed through the last few chapters both times I read it. I cannot wait to see Neville kill Nagini!

I actually agree. I thought a good portion of the first half of the book was very boring and I could do without a lot of the wandering in the woods, which makes up much of the first half.

I guess if they do a good job, it will be entertaining...I just hope they can make it not as boring as I found the first half of the book. The second half should be excellent.

Man, I need to read this book again. Good thing summer is coming up...it's when I usually read the books again. Don't know if I'll read all of them or just the 7th. I haven't read the 7th since the first time. Maybe I'll like it a little better the 2nd time and feel that the beginning isn't as much filler as I originally thought.

I can't wait to see Trelawney throwing crystal balls at the death eaters.:sohappy: Another thing that I'm excited about is that it looks like John Williams will be back to do the score. Man, I can only imagine how spectacular the music will be like.

I can't wait to see Mrs. Weasley yell at Bellatrix. :D

Good Lord, I need to read the book again. I've forgotten so much already!
