Trip Report DCL: Collect the whole set! A Pro9het Turf’less Surf story.

So the Cliff’s Notes version of trip details can be had here:

As is usual we are celebrating our anniversary at sea with DCL. What is not usual is we are doing it from a port that is not Port Canaveral. Our departure port would be New York City. This meant a first time trip to NYC for the both of us. This also meant there would be no WDW turf side to this story as is typical for us. Another first for us was our journey taking place on the Disney Magic. We’ve been on every other DCL ship to this point and we were excited to complete the set with our first Magic voyage. If that wasn’t enough “new” for us we added a new port of call, 2 days at Bermuda. So there ya have it, a series of firsts now lets get this party started.

Tuesday, day before we fly to NYC:
Word on the weather street was that a nor'easter was heading straight for NYC. Worse yet is was supposed to hit NYC while we were flying in that evening. We scrambled tonight to see if we could fly out earlier. Thankfully we found a flight leaving several hours earlier and better yet the seats were together. This would ease some of my bride’s fears of flying but only temporarily. It’s strange how life’s highs and lows can come at you. While we were scrambling to avoid a nor'easter we received a notification of a DVC resale contact that just hit the market. We’d been looking for a small VGC contract for a while and sure enough one popped up. We tossed our hat in the ring with an offer and the caveat that we were about to set sail and couldn’t sign anything until we returned. Fingers crossed!

Wednesday, travel day:
I was scheduled to work today but since we shifted our flight I took an additional vaca day. We left the house a little before 9am and since it was raining out this meant Georgia drivers just took a dump on Ga400. Seriously, this state may have the worst drivers. What should have been an easy, “post rush hour”, trip to the Marta station turned into a gridlock nightmare. It was so bad the usual Marta station we use was at capacity and we had to drive to the next station to catch a train. Thankfully that only incurred another 10 minutes on the road. We navigated the station, and soon were arriving at the airport. Hooray for TSA PreCheck! We passed through security in no time and settled into the terminal, only slightly frazzled.

Speaking of highs and lows, while we sat at the gate we received a notice from the DVC resale agent:

Our offer was accepted! This high was temporary, though, as it was time to board and my Bride’s nerves would be tested. As we boarded we did find things to distract us. For me it was:

For my bride it was:

As usual, this was a great TR from the both of you. Thank you for sharing. I always feel like I'm "there" sailing along with you, when I read your impressions, and see all the wonderful photos and videos. :)

Also, glad to note that your ship didn't get "lost" in the Bermuda Triangle! ;)

Happy New Year to the both of you, and may more happy cruises be in your future.

Awesome TR as always. Not sure if you’re bride or anyone else answered the savvy reader comment in R/E to your Palo Dinner?
Thanks! I'll let @imahistorygeek answer that one.

Going on our 14th DCL cruise in April on the Magic out of Miami. Hmmm

Our Itinerary has us going to Key West, Nassau, and Castaway with a day at sea.

Thanks for sharing - you always making it sound so enticing ... and then you‘ll post a picture of the ship and it makes me say, nope, not interested 😉
They're so much fun and the food and service are awesome.

@lostpro9het enjoyed this report, as always! Not sure how much free time you’ll have before/after in Miami, but let me know if you need any brewery/restaurant recommendations.

We're staying between the port and the airport. If you have any recommendations I'll take them. We'll have a few hours the day before the cruise to explore some.

I reminded my colleague Melissa to bring the good stuff to the beer exchange on the Magic.

Looking forward to meeting her! This beer exchange group has been VERY quiet and I hope that is not a bad sign. We still have 18 signed up so hopefully the actual turn out is good. I'm bringing three brown ales from a small brewery in Asheville, NC and 3 double IPAs from a small brewery in Cleveland, GA.

Thank you ma'am! We're thankful no bad omens took hold during our trip.
@lostpro9het some breweries I like are Wynwood Brewery, J Wakefield Brewing and Biscayne Bay Brewing. Only thing about Biscayne Bay is their brewery is located in Doral and unfortunately not around Biscayne Bay. Wynwood is a cool/hipster area to walk around and there's tons of art work up and down several streets.

As far as restaurants, my buddy is a partner/head chef at Tap 42. There's one in midtown Miami. Great spot for lunch or dinner and they have 42 beers on tap, as the name implies. Highly recommend getting the Prohibition Burger or California chopped chicken bowl.

That's the one we got ripped off on during our 2nd Magic cruise in 2017. Rough seas wouldn't allow the ship to dock at Key West. Wishing you guys better luck!

I now have that itinerary booked for May 2021, so we'll have our 35th anniversary on board. As opposed to that March 2017 sailing, where we were celebrating 35 years of dating! haha. This is what Ritesh (also a spectacular Palo server) brought us after dessert that evening.

They've gotten quite creative with those dessert plates--my hubby has gotten "Nothing" after dinner on the Magic more than once, but I thought "No More" was very clever!

I know I am behind here but I have to stop every few posts and look to see how soon I can get myself on a Disney cruise :hilarious:. This alone might sway DH to go for it.
Both The Magic and The Wonder have the gyro station!

As always, it was fun following along. Looking forward to the next! Cheers!
Thank you, sir! Im looking forward to some new beers in two days!

Great trip report!

I enjoy reading about your adventures. Just had a quick question (need of clarification) on the cruise, for Cove Café the beverages there are an additional cost but the food they have there is part of the initial cruise cost so no extra cost?

Our family just booked a trip on the Magic of February 2021. Looking forward to it even more after this trip report!

Correct. Coffee/drinks in Cove Cafe are for a fee but the treats they have are at no additional cost.
