Trip Report DCL: Collect the whole set! A Pro9het Turf’less Surf story.

So the Cliff’s Notes version of trip details can be had here:

As is usual we are celebrating our anniversary at sea with DCL. What is not usual is we are doing it from a port that is not Port Canaveral. Our departure port would be New York City. This meant a first time trip to NYC for the both of us. This also meant there would be no WDW turf side to this story as is typical for us. Another first for us was our journey taking place on the Disney Magic. We’ve been on every other DCL ship to this point and we were excited to complete the set with our first Magic voyage. If that wasn’t enough “new” for us we added a new port of call, 2 days at Bermuda. So there ya have it, a series of firsts now lets get this party started.

Tuesday, day before we fly to NYC:
Word on the weather street was that a nor'easter was heading straight for NYC. Worse yet is was supposed to hit NYC while we were flying in that evening. We scrambled tonight to see if we could fly out earlier. Thankfully we found a flight leaving several hours earlier and better yet the seats were together. This would ease some of my bride’s fears of flying but only temporarily. It’s strange how life’s highs and lows can come at you. While we were scrambling to avoid a nor'easter we received a notification of a DVC resale contact that just hit the market. We’d been looking for a small VGC contract for a while and sure enough one popped up. We tossed our hat in the ring with an offer and the caveat that we were about to set sail and couldn’t sign anything until we returned. Fingers crossed!

Wednesday, travel day:
I was scheduled to work today but since we shifted our flight I took an additional vaca day. We left the house a little before 9am and since it was raining out this meant Georgia drivers just took a dump on Ga400. Seriously, this state may have the worst drivers. What should have been an easy, “post rush hour”, trip to the Marta station turned into a gridlock nightmare. It was so bad the usual Marta station we use was at capacity and we had to drive to the next station to catch a train. Thankfully that only incurred another 10 minutes on the road. We navigated the station, and soon were arriving at the airport. Hooray for TSA PreCheck! We passed through security in no time and settled into the terminal, only slightly frazzled.

Speaking of highs and lows, while we sat at the gate we received a notice from the DVC resale agent:

Our offer was accepted! This high was temporary, though, as it was time to board and my Bride’s nerves would be tested. As we boarded we did find things to distract us. For me it was:

Now I'm not really a rum drinker outside of my Castaway Cocktail mixing so my next statement may be naive. Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum is the best rum of all the rums. What ever they do to age it gives the rum some amazingly intense flavors. This is a rum I would buy just to drink straight.

While I do agree it's a good rum, I also like a Jamaican Rum called, Appleton! 😋

Is that what they're calling it now?
Yup!

Ill give it a go! We’re doing the Grand Cayman in 17 days so maybe ill try it there.

Great report. I got diverted as I was reading yesterday - felt the urge to log into the Disney Cruise website and check out potential future cruises.
Excellent! They’re so much fun.

Dark & Stormy is my go-to cocktail.
Last year on the Fantasy I accidentally booked rum tasting right after Remy champagne brunch. (I muscled through it, but don’t recommend)

Anyway, the last rum that they served, the Kraken, was a totally amazing dark rum. In fact, according to my notes, both of the rums I liked best were from Trinidad. Who knew?

The others we tasted that day were a Blackwell from Jamaica, which happens to be the ancestor of Appleton, and a rum from Guatemala that was just meh.

Goslings Cruise looks awesome, as does returning to the Magic at night.

Detour over, I now return you to your regularly scheduled trip report.

Saturday, Bermuda Day 1, con't:

YIKES! Tim has really slipped away from me. The end of the semester was maddening and now we're LESS THAN 10 DAYS away from boarding The Magic again. I'd really like to wrap this up before then so lets move on.

After our rum cruise we had just enough time to drop our gear off at our room before heading to dinner. Victor had already turned things down for us and left us with some art.

Tonight's rotational dining had us at Lumiere's. Not my favorite of the three bot the offerings we're good. Things started out with bread and a menu.

My bride went a little tapas tonight with the Bresaola and Wedge Salad.

I was most interested in the Chicken Kiev but also want to see what the Pork Spatzle was all about. The chicken was very good and I really enjoyed the pork and Swiss sauce. The Spatzle was just ok to me but I wasnt really in the mood for that and ended up sharing it with TeamLongIsland as he was a Spatzle superfan.

We closed things out with some dessert. We shared the Irish Warm Guinness Pudding and the NY Cheesecake. No complaints there.

After dinner made for the adult district for some games with #tonyfromspain and an ad hoc comedy show. I hate that I cant remember the comedian's name as he was very good at his craft.

After the comedy act we were done for the night. We had an early excursion the ext day and figured it best to say goodnight. One more picture of Bermuda before the morning.

Sunday, Bermuda Day 2:

As I mentioned before we were docked for the night at Kings Wharf. This meant sleeping on a cruise ship without any rocking which was a small mind blow as you're a little conditioned to feel something while aboard sleeping. Still, great night of sleep and we woke to a beautiful morning.

We were starting day four of this trip and the food wall was starting to hit us. You are surround by so much good food on these cruises that you can start to loose sight on what you're eating and how often until its to late. Today we tried to go a little lite for breakfast and just had rooms service bring us some cold breakfast. It was another great veranda meal with a view.

Another benefit of staying docked is we could hope off whenever we were ready and so once we finished breakfast we made for the wharf.

A spatzle superfan? But it’s just so bland...
I concur but I didn't judge him. He didn't see it on the menu but got so excited when he saw it brought to the table. I was happy to let him have at it.

I really have no idea how long we were in the water but it was a while and we had both had all snorkeling we were game for. We came back aboard and started in on the rum swizzles and cookies. Didn't realize until now that we could still see The Magic from our cove.

LOVED the snorkeling pictures! Undersea magic and intrigue! What a fun activity you had.

Completely unrelated to the above, but I've always really liked all of your breakfast photos, looking out at the water, in the peace of mornings. I kinda escape into those pictures! (My breakfast this morning -- munching on gingerbread cookies that I made for Christmas, and my dog just stole one off my plate, while I stepped away momentarily!) :banghead: :hilarious:

There he is below -- and no, he's not innocent -- don't let the expression fool you!! (Click for larger image.)
