Absolutley nothing... er.... DLP SM has a pool in front of it.. and if its windy the water ripples across the surface.... pretty lame huh?!

Well the Rock n Rollercoaster has slowly been getting rougher over time. I would say the ultimate answer would be adding shocks and suspension to all of the trains.

Sorry this topic had drifted off thread..

I would have to disagree that RnRs music is more important show wise than DLP SM - RnR plays you 2 (or is it 3) edited Aerosmith tracks per ride. At SM, the score was actually written around the ride experience - each part of the score is longer than it needs to be, and the ride system plays the appropiate part for as long as it need to (compensating for different train run times etc.) - think of it as an E ticket MSEP or Spectro, where the appropiate music is played from each float, but it keeps in perfect timing with the overall beat.

SM has grand starting music as you leave the station, then a suspensful mysterious piece as you wait for launch (if the lauch gets delayed, this is where you hear the full piece of music... if it launches as normal you get maybe 3 or 4 parts of the larger piece of music (think of them as verses and chourus`s). Then you lauch and we get a great musical build up, and as we hit the top of the lift (and get the airtime) the music `hangs` with you, then goes into its fast signature piece. All timed to the ride - its the most `real` movie soundtrack experience going!! When the ride is going well, the music is `happy`, when you hit the meteor shower its `dangerous`, when you fly towards the moon its triumphant, then as you miss the moon and plunge downwards, its scary. You seem to pull out of this dive and the music is `relief`, then as you enter the elecro decelerator (brake zone) the grand finale kicks in - and stilll sometimes manages to end (big brass Star Wars type de de de de) smack on when the train comes to a halt. Hope you like my technical terms... I do waffle on don`t I?

IMHO, I think perhaps it maybe more to do with the roughness of the track that knocks the flash interconnects out (ordinary ribbon cables like a parallel port socket) - both RnRs are incredibly smooth rides, we know DLCs SM is getting a new track (was it bumpy?? - this type of bob ride generally is and the retro fit ausio system wasn`t designed for that track type) and DLPs SM is renowned for being rough - indeed new cars with redesigned boggies and new headrests are on the way since the track smoothness has deteriated over time - not just on SM, but all Vekoma rides manufactured at this time. That would certainly account for the intermittent break of sound (as if the sockets are making and breaking..)

Again, sorry to go off topic.

Well, I orginally thought that the roughness of the rides would knock out the wirering, too, but then I rode Cali. It's very smooth. It's a Intamin for Christ's sake, they are KNOWN for their smoothness! As for the themeing, well, sure, it is important for Space and Cali, but it's not the POINT of the ride. Nor does it tell the story more. RnR's story is with music and a wild ride with the radio in the background. Space Mountain's and California Screamn's music is great and adds to the experence, but it's not necessary like it is for RnR.

CS is very smooth, except for the first launch. And I think SM is richety because of age. Most coasters do that no matter how well built or maintained they are.

Nah... I have to disagree. As I said, DLP SMs score feels like a movie track, playing live. It adds far more emotion to the ride (happy, sad, scary). Of course, thats just my humble opinion...:animwink:

Right, but maybe he's trying to say, if the music went down, the ride would still make sense to people....well, I guess if you are going to an aerosmith concert you don't have to listen to their music on the way either....I don' t know.

I've heard the music on that BBC1 special...that's so Steven Spielberg that music. It would be like you are in a movie.

Yeah, we he said. ;p

It's needed more than others because it's part of the story. It's like not having the stretching rooms working at the Haunted Mansion.

Ok, Let me try...
The small cove area on the right side of the map, where it says"Waves Start Here" Is where the actual machine is, to start the wave action...it then ripples across most of Paradise Bay, to simulate the feeling of being on an Oceanside boardwalk, where the ferris wheel and the games and such are located...
Now I give up...:hammer:
