Day off at Disney

A day off from the four parks can bring magical fun. You can resort hop and check out the layouts of the resports; tour Downtown Disney and the Disney Marketplace; enjoy Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach (although I guess those are considered water "parks", so strike those); or even Fantasia Gardens or WinterSummerland putt-putt golf.

I think the two putt-putt golf areas cost $10 or so, maybe a few dollars more.

Oh, and there is always, if you are an avid golfer, golfing 18 holes at WDW's many golf courses.

You can also tour the Boardwalk resort.

There are a lot of things to do. It's not always rush, rush, rush. It's your vacation/holiday and you run the show.

Good luck!

Yeah the mini golf is fun. I like the Winter Summer land the best. As mentioned Disney also has great golf courses but they are not cheap. Magnolia and Palm courses are kept well and have the GPS carts that have the screen that shows you your position and distance from the hole.

Downtown Disney is a nice place to go hang out, do Disney Quest or go watch a movie.

Also going to a monorail resort to eat and then hop on the monorail and visit the other resorts to shop or look around is fun. Take a boat out of one of the marinas onto the Seven Seas Lagoon or over to Bay Lake. Some Disney resorts have activities during the day that many don’t know go on so see what is happening at your resort.

We like to pack a picnic lunch and rent a party/pontoon boat from the Contemporary. Gives us a different view of the park, resorts and seeing everyone running around while I'm relaxing and floating out on the water. You can get everything you need for lunch right at the Contemporary too. We usually go out for about an hour and it is sooooo relaxing!

We like pool hopping at the different resorts. This way we can see the different hotels and try the food courts as well as swim in some killer Disney pools. The mini golf was ok but I think the courses just off the Disney property are a lot better.

Just for clarification...

DVC members are the only people who are allowed to do this. Resort rules state that you must use your specific pool only. Guests from other resorts and off site are not suppose to use other pools.

Sometimes this is strictly enforced, sometimes not.

Resort touring is definitely fun!
We do it every trip...though usually limit it to the ones where there's easy access...like the Epcot circle, and the monorail resorts.

We have discovered some fun shopping and dining, as well as just hanging out at places like the Boardwalk, and the Wilderness.

Once we rented a pedal boat, and had a blast on the lagoon.

And I LOVE Fantasia Gardens for mini golf. As they say...not cheap, but worth it! It is all tricked out with little special effects at each hole. One of my favorite mini golf courses ever!

Renting those big 4-6 person bikes can be fun at the Boardwalk. Renting boats can also be fun but I am not sure if some would consider it affordable. There is a nice little walking path from WL to FW as well.

While the parks are undoubtably the centerpiece of WDW, there is so much additional magic to be absorbed if taken at a slower pace.
We're staying 6 nights at AKL in september before a Carribean cruise and decided for the first time to not visit the parks at all. Not even Typhoon or Blizzard.
We plan to suck up the atmosphere of Jambo & Kidani's pools, bars, restaurants and lobby. We'll also travel to other resorts for meals, drinks and exploration.(Including our first experience of Hoop-De-Doo Revue)
Without a doubt, we'll visit Downtown Disney once or twice and plan on visiting Winter Summerland mini golf.(We tried Fantasia Gardens last year and it was a blast!)
To us, the Disney resorts are every bit as magical as the parks and we can't wait to enjoy Disney World at a more mellow pace.
Of course, when we return in 2010, we'll be right back to park commando mode, but for this one vacation, it will be a nice change of pace.

Yep. No trip is complete without one walk around the Poly.:)

We like to do some shopping and eating at DTD and this year we hit both mini-golf places. If you're not very good at golfing (or mini-golfing for that matter :D) or have kids go to Winter Summerland. I fall into the not-so-good at mini-golfing category and enjoyed both of them, but I like Winter Summerland better.
We stayed at the Poly and they had different activities throughout the day. We didn't take time to check any out ourselves, but that might be an option b/c I'm sure many resorts have different activities going on.
