Davy Jones effect gone?

The mist projection works best with a bit of a greater distance between boats, as they create a breeze when passing underneath that disturbs the falling mist, making the projection hard to make out. If you ride PoTC enough times, you'll get lucky eventually. When it works, it's really pretty cool. And of course the smell, like all Disney mist/fog, is intoxicating. :p

When we went late sept, I swear it was not Davy Jones, but Black Beard on the projection. It was very hard to see the projection compared to what I saw Davy Jones look like.

The projection varies. When I went in August I rode the ride more than once and I saw each of them.

They had to "rip it apart" to put it in fairly quickly.

Right, but my point is that the Orlando maintenance crews probably don't keep the rockwork specialists around all the time.
Even assuming it's the same guys who are doing finishing work on the mine train right now, it's probably not a simple thing to have them drop one construction project to do an ad hoc bit of work on another attraction.

Anyone know if a permit would be needed to remove the rockwork and switch out the projectors?

Just past where the Jones projection should be. Before the beach scene.

Most often it looks like a yellowish coloured blob thats visible for a second.
Actually if you look close they are blue mermaids and they can be totally made out from head to tale. You just have to really be looking at the water. I personally love the effect.

To me, that is the problem. You have to REALLY be looking at the water. I am looking around, not down at the water.

I was at MK on Wednesday and the mist was off and no voice over of either Davy Jones or Blackbeard. I was ok with it off since I don't love the effect.

Somehow I doubt that they have to "rip" anything out to get to the projectors. There's probably a section of the "rock" or the glass plate comes off for access, or perhaps offers access from behind. Projectors and bulbs are subject to failure, especially in a damp environment. It would be very shortsighted to make it next to impossible to access.

Shortsighted like the decision to build a 20-million dollar animatronic yeti figure but not account for the stresses it would impart on its concrete base?

These people don't exactly have the best track record in the world.
