David Koenig on the (near-ish) future of Disneyland park

I hope the cars on the Captain America coaster don't look like this:

I feel the Disneyland brand has such strong appeal that it doesn't need everything to be tied to the hottest IP to survive or thrive. HM is still an original attraction, no IP, first opened in 1969 and they keep replicating it all over the world and even created a sort of spin off in Mystic Manor as recently as what, 2010? Also no IP.

Just FYI, I don't really think Toad is on the chopping block but if it was, what could they possibly fit into Toads footprint that would be worth losing the history and appeal that it has for fans all over the country? A BATB store? A meet and greet?

Couldn't they get rid of Toad to make more room for expanded Peter Pan queue/ride/Fastpass?

Lose a ride for a queue? No thank you.

Expanding the ride I don't think is possible. As others have mentioned Alice sits on top of Toad. I guess if they get rid of Toad and Alice it's doable. We would just have a net loss of two rides and a net gain of a larger Pan queue and two extra scenes. Nah

If they were going to go that route I would rather they expand Toad or Put in a new ride where Pan is and rebuild a Pan E ticket near the FL theatre.

It's hard to imagine Disney getting rid of Alice given the status of the IP.

Yeah definitely wouldn't want to see either Alice or Toad go. But the thought of Pan being rebuilt as an E ticket is intriguing. There is certainly the demand for it and it would solve all of the queue issues. I've said over and over again that Pan or Aladdin deserve an E ticket. It's a no brainer.

That's how I feel about it too. I'd hate to lose the charm of those simple dark rides in the heart of the park, but could definitely get behind building a new state-of-the-art Pan Two in a FL expansion that fixes the capacity problem.

Dumbo or Sleeping Beauty for example could compress in a tiny old school dark ride experience to replace Pan One.

Edited to remove an oops.

I don't invest any trust that this rumored stuff will ultimately turn into fact. Kroenig said it was a just a current way of thinking, subject to change, and completely unfunded as of now. But assuming this rumor

I don't buy kroenigs article either.

I say let's jump on the synergy train. Put a Mary Poppins dark ride where Pan currently is ( its on the London side of FL after all) to coincide with the new movie. Then rebuild a Pan E ticket where the FL theatre is.

Oh, if I was in charge...

That Kroenig bit was a left-over draft from an earlier abandoned post, not intended as part of that reply. I've removed it now.

I like Mary Poppins for it, but would take more story compression But they could keep it a flying ride and put you in Mary's POV. Of course then people would wonder why she wasn't in the ride.

If Alice can sit on top of Mr Toad, why couldn't it sit on top of an expanded Peter Pan?

I never ride them because to me they aren't worth the wait on a busy tourist schedule with limited time. If they could do something, anything, to make these attractions at least worth waiting 40+ minutes for I might be willing to do it.

While we're BSing around imagine what could be done if they leveled FL and Toontown and rebuilt it for the 21st century. I'm talking about a complete ROA/SAW Land
lets-start-from-scratch kind of leveling. Keep the Castle, the Matterhorn, and Small World. Everything else goes and gets reimagined.

Would you prefer the Fantasylands from Hong Kong or Shanghai to what is already in Anaheim? They're probably a good guess as to what the result of a demolish and start over would be .

We generally catch one of them per visit for a little sweet taste of nostalgia, and switch around which one we choose. I wouldn't take the time to do more than that. Now that the boys are growing up, I don't know we'll keep riding at all with the extreme overcrowding.

I've enjoyed the little tech updates they've added which I think freshen them respectfully. The fact that they stay so busy is both a comment on their continued popularity, and a good argument that their infrastructure is inadequate to today's park. Still hate to lose them.
