Whatever happened to something about David Copperfield at the Studios? I remember many years back as I was entering the park seeing billboards for Fantasmic(as it was being built) and something about David Copperfield, and it was like underground or something. I really cant remember,as I was about 10 at the time.

I think you're referring to the planned restaurant that was going to be built at the entrance to Disney-MGM Studios. It was going to be similar to the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom in that you could access it from both inside and outside of the park. Disney abandoned the plans because the restaurant chain went under.

There is already one new thread on the david copperfield resturant at MGM and at least five othere from the past.

you should do a search before posting.

the magicians resturant concept was pulled in the late 90s due to davids investors pulling out after his new youk eatery closed due to lack of interest in concept resturants and business faild to meet projections

those threads are months old...I don't see any real problem in simply asking about the Magic Underground--it coulda been amazing...I wish they would build a new sit-down restaurant SOMEWHERE in the parks...it's been awhile--Animal Kingdom, especially, is lacking.

While not condoning what was done, I think that people that could be gently reminded that there is a search feature, that this topic has come up before, and answer the question.

Like it was said, nemo didn't know better, and the threads on this subject are buried.

It doesn't take long to put your search term in and if you can't get a satisfied answer, go ahead and post.

Please share with me a topic related to Disney News and Rumors that does not already have several threads related to it. I don't think there is a single one. Therefore, we should post no new threads?

So this resturant would have been located on the Fantasmic or Bus Stop side? I would guess the Fantasmic side as there is much more room there...

Good Eatin'

The eatery was going to be accompanied by a themed gift shop located adjacent to the Planet Hollywood-side AMC 24 theater entrance at Downtown Disney. The gift shop is now a general Disney merchandise shop (I forget what it's called.) The shop did, however, remain empty for quite a period of time with "Copperfield Magic Underground - coming soon" signs on all of the windows.

The resturaunt was also scheduled to open in other locations, including one in New York city. The project was abandoned in full.

David Copperfield went for quite a period of time (about 6 years) without airing any new CBS tv specials - which is odd considering that he did one every year for quite some time. He has, since Magic Underground folding, aired a new television special, launched world tours, and altogether re-entered the current pop market. I think that one of the biggest downfalls for the project was its timing. While David was actively touring, there seemed to be a "dry spell" in his media popularity. With David's recent TV specials, appearances on shows like MTV's TRL with Carson, I think that the project would have a 'better' chance of surviving now, or at least somewhere further down the road when market performance increases.

Did you hear about Blaine's next feat? Something about being in a box for 40 something days without food.

That is just sheer masochism thanks all the same!!!! I think Ill stick with David's making planes, elephants and even the Statue Of Liberty disappear!!! Although my favorite is still the special he did with flight!! At the end when he picked up Claudia Schiffer and gracefully floated around the auditorium and then out into the stars..............SIGH.................................... so romantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really glad they posted this question. I had no idea about this restaurant, so I wouldn't have been able to do a search like you suggested.

Copperfield Tour

While we're on the subject, for all those local Floridians, just let me mention that David Copperfield is scheduled to perform in Lakeland in November. This is somewhat surprising because he was just in Orlando a month ago. And Lakeland is not too far from WDW.

Tickets are not yet on sale, and last I checked, not even posted by the theater or Ticketmaster. Just keep checking with Ticketmaster.com and they'll eventually get posted prior to sale.
