Good Eatin'
The eatery was going to be accompanied by a themed gift shop located adjacent to the Planet Hollywood-side AMC 24 theater entrance at Downtown Disney. The gift shop is now a general Disney merchandise shop (I forget what it's called.) The shop did, however, remain empty for quite a period of time with "Copperfield Magic Underground - coming soon" signs on all of the windows.
The resturaunt was also scheduled to open in other locations, including one in New York city. The project was abandoned in full.
David Copperfield went for quite a period of time (about 6 years) without airing any new CBS tv specials - which is odd considering that he did one every year for quite some time. He has, since Magic Underground folding, aired a new television special, launched world tours, and altogether re-entered the current pop market. I think that one of the biggest downfalls for the project was its timing. While David was actively touring, there seemed to be a "dry spell" in his media popularity. With David's recent TV specials, appearances on shows like MTV's TRL with Carson, I think that the project would have a 'better' chance of surviving now, or at least somewhere further down the road when market performance increases.
