So they made him chief creative officer? Basically?

...the pieces are lining up on the board.

“retirement” on deck
Slow down, chief. ;)

There already another Executive Creative Officer, and he's also a VP of LucasFilm.

This promotion isn't the first domino. It probably happened when Filoni was given charge of the interconnected Mando-verse.

Together, they are the two halves of what Feige is to Marvel. DF can focus on tying stories together.

Any coincidence that the Daisy Ridley "talks" rumors stirred up when the DF announcement was made?

ummmm...”money lady”??

the flop or the huge BO declines? Or maybe that lego can only push ESB sets?

lets just retreat and watch it play...

looks like a changing of the guard...not a “double down”...but it’s not clear yet and no one knows for sure?

Why are you trying to manufacture conspiracy with no proof that one exists?

If you read the quoted article above, you would have learned that Filoni got the promotion a while ago. It was only recently his job title was updated on some web site. And that was recently noticed. Which led some to believe the promotion was recent, when it wasn't.

So, there is absolutely no "coincidence" here to read into with baseless speculation.

Kathleen Kennedy will retire in 2031 and there will still be a chorus of people saying "I told you so".

Absolutely. And then people will talk about how they forced her out and it was anything but mutual/friendly.

We've been hearing about Kennedy imminently being forced out for about 3 years now. One of these years they might be right.🤣

yep...totally...that’s why she’s done about 5 combined appearances/interviews since 2017...

nobody is changing anyone’s mind...and no “interpretation” of the details changes any of the events.

no need to make a case...just let it play

My stance on Kennedy has been this. She should have been shown the door a long time ago. At the same time I've never thought Disney would do it. A company that has been heavily criticized for a lack of female executives, would never publicly fire someone like Kennedy. My stance, and most smart people, figured they would let her run out her contract then fade into the sunset. So we really don't have long to wait. Her contract is up soon. So if she's renewed, all the Kennedy apologists were right.

The thing that gets me is this. If Kennedy is in such good graces at Disney and is going to be in charge of Lucasfilm for years to come. Why is star wars in such flux? Wasn't star wars supposed to be the flagship franchise? And now it has a few D+ shows and a movie by a director who turned wonder woman into an embarrassment. I have my doubts that even half of what they did announce ever comes out.

well here is where we agree...and can even find equal ground with “the other side”...

should kennedy have been dismissed after last johnson, solo and a decline in revenue generation that went with it?

absolutely...

was Disney likely to do it?

not at all.

several reasons:

1. bobs big purchase...bobs ego...Bob bagged George....
There’s a “reputation” to be upheld

2. Disney made the CONSCIOUS choice to abandon the OT, reboot and make the focus on expanding “the appeal” demographically. Like it or not...kennedy is the figurehead of that...fire her and they admit error. They don’t do that.

3. they aren’t turning their back on that strategy...so again...they don’t want to call kennedy a failure.

MCU is still putting up with Bree Larson (rumors are around she may end up in Star Wars)...and boseman DIED and they’re trying to rig black panther.
“This is the way”

Now...would Disney - in lieu of “firing” - let her ride it out and announce a “new project” for her??

you bet your .
We shall see...we all shall see

Kennedy's contract extension was announced in Fall 2018 - that was after The Last Jedi was released and Solo vastly underperformed. If there was ever a time to just let her "fade into the sunset" by not renewing her contract, that would have been a prime time to do so. If it was just about keeping her through Episode IX, they could have only extended her through the end of 2019 or somesuch.

I don't particularly care for Kennedy anyway and don't give a crap if she gets fired. I'm just saying that people who seem to think that she is hated or distrusted by Disney leadership don't have any evidence to support it. I mean we had a whole thread on here about how Iger was supposedly infuriated by the leak about Leslye Headland helming a Star Wars project and yet here we are with Kennedy still running Lucasfilm and The Acolyte was officially announced.

(And the reality is that even if they just part ways later this year, it won't really prove things one way or the other. She'll be 68 in October, wouldn't exactly be a crazy age for someone to "retire".)

The thing that gets me is this. If Kennedy is in such good graces at Disney and is going to be in charge of Lucasfilm for years to come. Why is star wars in such flux? We'll see. But they have at least two Star Wars films, plus Indiana Jones, plus Children of Blood and Bone in active development in terms of movies. And six new Star Wars shows (not counting Rangers which seems to not be happening) plus a Willow show. And of course The Mandalorian and Batch Batch already out. I'm not sure how "little" would have to be produced to support your point, but that seems like a decent amount of projects even though it is clear they cut back on their feature films for SW.

I'll agree though that some of the announced stuff won't happen, but I'm not sure that's all that different from any other studios these days. A lot of stuff is announced in development and doesn't stick.
