Relatively' The more recent changes have been much worse in my opinion.

I may have to agree with you my friend.

Alien Encounter was a huge change tho. Imagination change was big, and stupid. World of Motion being changed to Test Track was one of the biggest changes, wait, food rocks (which i loved) being changed to soarin' was one of the biggest changes, wait, :zipit:

I think you can make good arguments for the first bit of your post, but you'd have a real hard time convincing me that Soarin' isn't an upgrade over Food Rocks.

Heading for the great escape.
Did I mention Dave Mustaine was sat at the adjacent table when I breakfasted at the HRH in Nov, I think my Motorhead tour shirt unnerved him. Miserable git.

 I have a friend (I know, it's hard to believe) who works at some resort out in the San Diego area. Dave Mustaine came in and sampled some of the wines they had out. He thought Mr. Mustaine was quite nice.

Maybe we need some kind of Megadeth, Disney, Countdown to Extinction tie in thread.

I never said soarin' wasn't a big upgrade to to food rocks. I don't disagree with that change at all. It was a better thing to be put in epcot than food rocks. I'm just an animatronic show geek is all

You know what I find sad about AK?

Since it's opening, there have been only 3 expansions.

1. Asia (1999)
2. Chester and Hester's Dinorama (2001/2002)
3. Expedition Everest (2006)

Not counting TriceraTop spin, there have been, in total, only 3 rides added. :/

And Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends and the Discovery River Boats have been removed. Lame as they were, it doesn't help capacity.

They keep building these rides because they are big crowd pleasers. Little kids love them, to them they are a thrill ride, and with the lift levers they are in control.

I liked Pocahontas, I didn't think it was lame at all.

Yet, the fact that everyone loves EE, or the HM or any other big attraction, is no excuse for Disney to build a copy of each one of those rides with a new coat of paint and different vehicles without having to push ride design into a brand new level.

I will concede that is an exaggerated comparison, but that is pretty much what is going on with those spinners.

You all know that the Walt Disney Company is a business. It is not all about building theme park attractions.

The thing that gets me is how many people complain on this message board about things. Now sure the way some things have been let go or have actually gotten worse is one thing, but there are tons of other things Disney has to worry about and spend money on than just adding new rides & attractions.

What about the improvements to the street gutters outside the restrooms on Sunset Blvd at Hollywood Studios so that when the wet summer season comes, the streets don't flood and people complain?

Everything can't be built and fixed at once, but Disney is constantly repainting, replacing concrete, replacing things, and updating infrastructure.

At Hollywood Studios alone in the past few months, things I can think of include:
-TONS of pavement replacement (Hollywood blvd, in front of Indy, in front of hat, curbs on Sunset, near Streets of America, near Hollywood & Vine, etc)
-Roof work to Tower of Terror
-Refurbishment of Studio Catering (with new facilities in back, new menu, new signs)
-Refurbishment of Catastrophe Canyon on the Backlot Tour
-New metal grates on Streets of America
-Automatic sensors for the urinals in Brown Derby male restroom.
-Updated billboards throughout back half of the park (Good Morning America, World News with Diane Sawyer, ShaqCactus, Honey, I Shrunk, Ponyo, Princess & Frog, etc)
-Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Playground reburbishments
-Great Movie Ride sign refurbishment (Remove Coca-Cola part)
-Little Mermaid sign update (backdrop, added characters, and refurbished sign)
-Painting of the Tower of Terror "Valet Parking" wall
-Painting inside Toy Story queue to repair damage
-New storm gutter grates on Sunset Blvd in places
-Princess & the Frog & Toy Story 3 updates to Magic of Disney Animation
-Refurbishment of fire hydrants on Streets of America
-Refurbishment of old traffic lights on Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd
-Trash can replacement
-Lots of landscaping changes (cold snap replacement, tree removal around hub, seasonal flower changes, landscaping pruning at Tower of Terror, new landscaping near Backlot Exit)
-American Idol Audition entrance changes
-New soap dispensers in the Rock n' Roller Coaster restrooms. (less waste through leaky soap)
-New paper towel dispensers in 50s Prime Time restrooms.
-Tower of Terror neon light replacement
-Sushi now being offered at Staring Rolls Cafe. (after hearing guest feedback)
-Upgrades Christmas lights for Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights (updated technology, more energy efficient)
-Minor Little Mermaid queue changes
-Flooring replacement in Studio 1 Company Store near Muppet Vision.
-Christmas Carol life-size Christmas Card set up around Christmas
-Hannah Montana's Chicken Coop to Backlot Tour
-Luxo Jr. in Pixar Place completed

I can't even think of anymore, and this is doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. You have more I didn't mention, plus you have other parks and the resorts and transportation and marketing such as property entrance work, Space Mountain, pool refurbishments, Epcot additions, etc)

And for those of you arguing that Disney normally does all that and was still able to build new things, well, we are in a different economy these days and cuts have had to be made and Disney is not exempt from it all.

So next time you complain that things like Sounds Dangerous are sitting unused when Disney could add something there or that things are not taken care of as they used to, just remember that you are forget the little things. The money that is spent on supplies, behind the scenes work, little updates, labor, and goes to other aspects of the company and the resort.

I would. Knowing WDI, it would probably take months (not weeks), though.

Weeks, months, a year... whatever it takes IMO. I would be more than happy if I planned a trip and found out it was down for repairs. I know a lot of first timers might be upset but I'm selfish sometimes. Haha.

A bit exaggerated. I just can't see how building more of a ride people enjoy is a bad thing? They are trying to shorten the wait times and provide the experience for guests that only get to attend one park. It also helps everyone by providing more mild experiences for families easing the load on other attractions.

And WDW has done this with other more sophisticated attractions. Every park now has a 3-D immersive movie experience. Those replications ensure that even single day visitors get that experience. Turtle Talk and MILF are based on the same technology and much the same type of attraction, and I wouldn't be surprised to see versions of those shows pop-up at DHS and AK.

And in reality how different are RnR, SM, and BTM? Yes they are all radically different themes each with their own eccentricities, but their initial complexity gives Disney a bit more to work with. Dumbo is so simple it would be hard to do more than change the appearance.

It really comes down to Dumbo is simple technology that is easy to build, maintain, and retheme, that pleases a large portion of visitors. So why not replicate it? It's not really drawing funds from other resources, there's no R&D. I bet it cost less to build another spinner than it does to refurb Splash or Space Mountain.

Yes, the simplicity of the ride system does not allow for many changes besides different vehicles and colors. Omnimovers, coasters, flumes and other types of rides can be so drastically different from each other that despite their structural similarities they provide very different experiences with an unique theme and track layout.

You do make a very good point. However, I think Disney could replace the other spinners with equally simple ride systems that that will please a large portion of the visitors and eat crowds.
