Dark Times?

While I still love WDW, it just seems it these days aren't its lightest hour...

For one thing, I hardly hear anything that's really important. Just mostly "Oh, new restaurant menu", or "Oh, park closed until 9:00: etc etc. And yeah, I know the New Fantasyland rehab and Star Tours are coming, but I haven't really seen any construction yet to get me excited, like with Harry Potter, and speaking of which...

I wish Disney would do better then remaking a land and adding one new ride. :I Universal is doing this. Why not do something even better?

And I hate how the parks that need the most are ignored. What I mean is AK and Epcot. Don't get me wrong, AK is amazing, but it still doesn't have that many rides...and what about Beastly Kingdom, Australia, etc? Those would be good attacks against Potter. And while we're at it, how about repairing the Yeti and have Dinosaur become Countdown to Extinction again?

And Epcot...this park seems to be the most disrepair out of all, with the Unfinished SSE, the dumbing down with Disney characters like Nemo, The new JII, etc...yet no rides or attractions has been announced. :(

Sorry, but I hate how the only two things hitting WDW are just remakes of preexisting attractions. Look at Disney's California Adventure, look at Hong Kong Disneyland, those are getting new lands, and more than one attractions. :brick:

Sorry if i sound like a brat, but I'm just losing my patience kinda.

These are actually better times. The dark ages began about 13 years ago. Whilst there is still an awful long way to go, and probably no return to the heyday of the 70`s and 80`s there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

The past couple of years haven't been my favorite in the history of the resort, but they've also been the highest-revenue years so...

Was Downtown Disney a train wreck 13 years ago? Were hotels left unfinished? Did the monorails do double duty as transportation and billboards? Were rides like SSE, TTA, and Pirates of the Caribbean ruined with lousy scripts and lack of focus? How was Journey into Imagination? The Sorcerer's Hat? The Backlot Tour? Leave a Legacy? The Dining Plan? Everything we complain about today was not an issue 13 years ago. Gimme a break. :brick:

Well ... imo, it's actually been 15 years of steady decline, beginning with EPCOT Center changing its name. It's been mostly downhill since the Tower of Terror opened in 1994. Sadly, you left out closing the submarines, Mr. Toad, Horizons, World of Motion, Wonders of Life, Diamond Horseshoe, Kitchen Kabaret, Alien Encounter, wrecking the Tiki Room, and most of Main Street.

This really sums up how it went downhill.

I'm with marni.

With Pressler gone WDW has finally turned a corner.

I may in fact be the only one who thinks this but I really don't see anything wrong with the end of SSE, I kinda like it  They probably figure that guests would be so busy looking at the screens that the surroundings don't matter. I think a few simple lighting effects would take care of that and maybe installing mirrors at the beginning of the decent to make it look like the blue lights go on for infinity.

Wait, whats "wrong" with SSE?

And this is truly a dark moment for the company in general, they really gotta get moving and produce some high quality material, whether it be movies or in the parks.

Walt Disney World has become a recovering drug addict for Fanboys. 2 steps forward (Haunted Mansion refurb, Hall of Presidents refurb) 3 steps backward (unfinished SSE, budget cut Space Mountain, Character infestation across the parks).

Meanwhile Disneyland is popping steroids and hitting some home runs, but once the money runs out (especially after DCA is "finished" around 2012) Disneyland will need to look for money yet again.

I agree. Back in the glory days of WDW the Walt Disney corporation was pumping out amazing movies. The closest thing we have had to 'amazing' in years is Princess and the Frog and ...come on :snore:. I think before WDW can go back to what it was they need to remember where they came from.

I was referring to the wand's coming down.

I feel pretty good about the parks right now. From when I got involved to now, they've made a lot of good moves. I think whether unfinished or not, SSE needed an update and good it got one. I may not love Nemo, but for me, it is a reason to at least go into The Seas. DHS does need some love, MK has/is/will be getting some. And yeah, I hear and understand the whole "new Fantasyland isn't enough!" argument, but if they didn't do it, people would be complaining that Fantasyland needed work still! I just think they're the road to recovery.

-Nicholas, an at least decently pleased fan.

WondersOfLife

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Here's a dark side of disney: making stupid duplicates of Dumbo's ride... I would really appreciate disney if they keep Dumbo in Fantasyland. Not Animal kingdom, and not adventure land, just fantasyland...

universe of energy has no sponsor, nestle dropped out of the land pavilion a year ago, GM's contract with Test Track ended a year or 2 ago, wonders of life lost sponsor in 2000 and stopped forever in 2007, mission:space might be losnig HP (heard from other thread),

now all epcot has left is Spaceship Earth, Innoventions, Club Cool, and The Seas with nemo and friends (pixar)

Yeah, I agree better days are coming. DL is the focus right now and will be for a while.

I think HKDL is what's hurting WDW more than anything right now... Besides TDO. HK really does need more stuff. The park is pretty much a disaster. Kind of like how DLP hurt WDW in the 90's. Mystic Manor belongs at AK and Grizzly Trail belongs in Canada WS.

How anyone can say WDW is doing fine, while AK is being horribly ignored, not to mention EPCOT, is living on Mars.

But it is looking up. The FL refurb shows someone cares, despite TDO :)

There is nothing wrong with Disney World at all, its still amazing.

How many people have actually been there in the past year?

* Jimmy raises hand *

Its one thing to read about gripes of others who don't actually go, I figure its all they can do, complain about this and that because they cant go, but if you actually visited often, you would know first hand, you really have nothing to complain about.

And if you do go and still complain, you have too much time on your hands, get a life.

First off, Didn't I say I still loved Disney World?

Also, if you meant Last year, I was there at the Magic Kingdom. We go to different theme parks every year or so. This year is Animal Kingdom

And Yes, when I go, I do have something to complain about. Why hasn't Peter Pan been updated (As In improve the effects, animatronics, etc)? Why is AK a great, but still a half day park? Why is the Yeti stuck in B-mode? Why hasn't the descend been fixed at Spaceship Earth? Why is Fast Pass effectively useless?

Also, with Fantasyland being remade into 2013, I doubt we'll see any other expansion until then....

So I guess we won't be seeing Beastly Kingdom, Australia, and Finished SSE until 2017!
