What's the word on that? Is it officially dead? That is too bad. I didn't even care if it was themed to Brother Bear or DCA's Grizzly Point. A really good raft ride at WDW would have been great!

i dont know anything about it, but by the way things have been going i am not confident that it will.

One of the big reasons Mt. Fuji was never built was due to Kodak not wanting their biggest rival's symbol having more inpact on park guest then their own red and yellow K. However, from what I have heard, Kodak's contract is up in a year or so, and things may not be working out for them. So who knows we might have an anounment for Fuji by 2007

I got the AllEars newsletter too, it mentioned that the boat ride would feature the scenes along the Rhine, no mention of AAs. I am going on the 16th (weather permitting  ) and will try to find the "door" if it exists.

Things do change. I was surprised in looking at DonickCo's photos from 1980 that the film shop on Main Street USA was not Kodak - it was POLAROID!

Here's the pic: Look in the right corner of the photo.

Polaroid, Kodak, Fuji - but if Fuji comes to EPCOT, will that be the end (again) of Figment?

One of the other plans for the Japan pavillion was one of the early concepts for Fire Mountain and would have starred Godzilla. The ride would of began as a bullet train tour of Tokyo. Suddenly, Godzilla surfaces in Tokyo Bay and the rest of the ride is a frantic race back to the station, while evading Godzilla, concluding with a face to face encounter with a full sized animatronic Godzilla head. Here's a really old article about the plans for Fire Mountain throughout the years, including the WS version of Matterhorn and Mt. Fuji: http://www.arkstar.com/dreamfinder/dit899.htm
Thank goodness the Godzilla never came to life in Japan..that would have been downright awful...WS is about celebrating other cultures...not emphszing stereotypes.

I'm totally agree with you.

What would the japanese people think of Godzilla as a representative image of their country and culture? :veryconfu

That's not quite true. Yes, Fuji Film could get a boost from an attraction that shares its name. But more to the point, Mt. Fuji holds a somewhat sacred place to the history and religions of Japan. To this day people make pilgramiges to walk trails up the mountain, not just for a day in the parks, but to find spiritual peace. Building a Fuji rollercoaster would be similar to building Mr. Toad's Wild Ride Through the Sistine Chapel in the Italy pavilion or a Washington Monument drop tower next to the American pavilion.

What I would like to see Disney do is strengthen its relationship with Studio Ghibli of Japan. Then, Disney could build an american version of the Ghibli Museum inside/behind the Japan pavilion. http://www.tautoz.com/ghiblimuseum/

The museum shows an original Totoro film (and two other original films) that could easily be translated into english. Plus, with the material to draw from, Disney Imagineers could create an experience unlike anything in the parks today.

Kodak is tumbling further and further. They have announced in the past year of the end of manufacturing point and shoot film cameras in the USA. They will continue to produce them for other parts of the world as of now. The only film cameras they will produce in the USA are SLRs and they are already not a big player in that market.

For digital cameras, most of theirs are low end cameras (but do sell well) and they have one major digital camera I believe it is 14 MP but it is not a big seller as it is supose to be really slow and only used by portraig photographers.

That being said they are still the largest in terms of the paper used in developing (I believe, could be wrong).

I was not suguesting that Mt. Fuji was nothing more then a company logo. I was suguesting that on a corporate suit level it's goodwill. Think about it, when people hear the word blimp... what pops into their mind, most often it's Goodyear, even though many many companies have their logos on blimps. Not quite the same, but just an reference point.

As for Fuji coming to Disney... That's not exactly what I meant either. But what I know and what I can say are two different things. Keep an eye out for exciting changes coming to a WDW themepark near you soon when it comes to photos. :animwink: (but is this hearsay, fact, my fantasy... only time will tell)

Godzilla was actually a warning against the use of Nukes. Basically is protest film but it seems that nobody knows its meaning.

Anyway, there are thousands and thousands of planned attractions that never got built. The Portion we know about are the ones that got ahead of the others (even greenlited and built) but never opened.

I assume though that the Germany ride would have been very similar to Disneyland's motorboat cruise.

That building is kind of like a cast services type building (I think). I was back there once on my college program and I remember seeing a large locker room and stuff in there. The bus from vista way dropped us off back there and that was how we entered the park that day. I rarely rode the bus because I had my car, but my room mate wanted to take the bus instead, so I saw a part of Epcot that I'd never seen before.
