The Haunted Menagerie:
This is a walkthrough located by WDW's Haunted Mansion themed to the monsters of world mythologies! Guests enter a Dutch Gothic building and queue through a gallery of art depicting mythical beasts from all over the world. Then, guests meet their guide in a foyer then “descend” by “elevator” into the catacombs below The Haunted Mansion. Guests exit the elevator and enter a forest, similar to the kind found in the Pacific Northwest, with pines and lush vegetation abound. The guide remarks that this is the domain of the Sasquatch. The Sasquatch then shows up. Then, guests move along to Lyngvi Island, where Fenrir the wolf is bound in chains until Ragnarok. The guide tells the story of Fenrir, son of Loki. They tell of Tyr, the Norse god of war, who sacrificed his hand so Fenrir could be chained. They also tell that Fenrir is destined to eat the sun and moon during Ragnarok. Next, guests enter the marshes of Lerna, home of the Hydra that Heracles and his cousin Iolaus slayed. That story is brought to life before the eyes of guests with the guide narrating. The two heroes put cloths over their faces to protect themselves from the Hydra's venomous breath. Heracles shot arrows at each head as Iolaus burnt the stumps where the heads once were so that two heads don't grow back. (If you think this is too dark, just remember that this story is a scene in Hercules, sans Iolaus) Next, guests enter a Japanese forest where a young person stands. The guide tells guests that as a Fox ages, it gains tails and mystical power. When it gains nine tails, the Fox becomes a Kitsune and can transform into a person, usually a Woman. Sometimes, they go on to marry and live human lived. The person in the forest is revealed to be a Kitsune as orange fur grows on them and nine fox tails reveal themselves. Then, guests enter an Andean valley with giant feathers, talon marks, and signs of an earthquake. The guide tells guests that this is clearly the result of an Amaru's rampage. An Amaru is a giant serpent with feathered wings and talons. The Amaru swoops down, screeching and hissing. Guests then enter the Southern African desert, where elephants and snakes slither by. The guide tells of how the gods created a beast called The Grootslang before they created most animals, including humans. They made it too powerful and split it into two animals, the elephant and snake. However, one Grootslang got away. Soon, the guide leads guests into a cave lined with ivory and jewels with a giant beast sleeping within. Its upper half is an elephant and its lower half a snake. The room is an Australian billabong, home to the Bunyip. It has multiple snake heads, each with a wolf's snout, wings of some sort of bird of prey, a snake's body, a fox’s tail, and an ape's feet. It snarls at guests as the guide explains that the Bunyip takes many forms, Some people say it looks like a black seal--or a dog with claws and tusks or a duck's bill. One account says it looks like a crocodile with an emu's head. Another says it's like a cow with grey feathers. Guests then return to the catacombs and “ascend“ via “elevator” before leaving through the same building they entered from.
