Dance kids scammed out of their Disney vacation

The good news is that since they are from a very rich suburb of Nashville so the parents were able to pull out their credit cards and salvage the trip for those kids.
I didn't read anything that said that. How would you know that??!!??

I also live in Nashville so I am familiar with that area. The article mentioned that the parents paid for the trip when they realized that they had been scammed and had no reservations. I hope that travel agent who scammed them spends some time in jail. Just disgusting to do that to kids.

Franklin, may or may not be a 'rich' suburb of Nashville, but that does NOT mean that ALL the students come from rich parents. My children danced, competitively for years, and had to fund-raise and save to participate...it was their choice and we scraped together to help them achieve their dream. When the dream changed, we moved to the next activity. Another child at the studio paid her tuition through obtaining a sponsor.

The children worked hard for this trip and raised the money in a variety of ways. It is sad that someone took advantage of them. Just because some of the families could afford the bill after the theft, doesn't make it alright.

Once again, I never said that. The article said that several parents got together to pay for tickets and rooms on the spot so that is a good thing. It was not a slam in any way to the kids or the parents.

Actually, Mrs Trace Adkins covered $60k of the $70k bill - or at least that was the number that I read on another site. This story doesn't mention it specifically. I will see if I can find that source.

That's super cool! I hadn't heard that she did that. Many groups would have had to go home if they were scammed like that and found themselves without tickets and room reservations so they were very lucky they had someone able to do that (which is the point that I was trying to make above that got COMPLETELY misconstrued). I don't know many people who could foot that kind of bill. This story highlights the best and worst of people.

That was wonderful of her. Remarkable how a story can highlight both the worst and best kinds of people.

Brava, Mrs. Adkins!

It's funny, because I couldn't tell you a song that man has sung, but he certainly is a great guy. I loved him on the two seasons of Celebrity Apprentice he was on, and he does a lot of charitable work in general (and not just in the show, outside). Apparently there was a fire at his home when he was away, and his family who was there was helped immensely by the Red Cross at the time, and he has become a huge fundraiser for them since.

I may not like or even know any of his music, but he is good people - and apparently his wife is, too. I'm not surprised a lot of articles aren't mentioning it - because I'm guessing she didn't make a big deal out of it, and it only got out because one of the other parents talked.

Why is that pathetic? I think it's great they were able to do that so the kids weren't disappointed. I was certainly not slamming them in anyway.

What I think is terrible is that, like someone else had posted, you assume since they're from a rich area they just automatically have the funds. Whether they do or dont have extra funds, why even make that comment? If they were from a poor area would your first comment be about how its extra sad because they probally used all their funds on the trip? Stereotyping at its finest.

Bottom line is this is a Disney forum and a sad story about kids and families being scammed from a Disney trip-- let's leave the socio economic issues, stereotypes, comments and opinions out.

@crispy was simply pointing out that she was glad to see it had a somewhat happy ending after all. If you live in an expensive area then it's more than likely you are considered upper class. I agree that pointing out which parents could have paid was an expendable comment, but her/his intention was clearly not to offend or stereotype anyone.

The sad thing is that I have first hand knowledge of a similar situation (cheer leaders going to Oahu to preform in the pro-bowl staying at Aulani) in another state and the people got away got like 100 hours of community service (only 30k stolen) but the children in the other case got nothing. no trip. no chance to preform. no apology from scum who stole from them. The parents could not afford the trip. All the funds were raised in the other case.
