D23: The D stands for Disappointing (Updated)

Well then that is a MAJOR MISTAKE and shows they don't understand Spider-Man or why people want to go on a Spider-Man ride. Spider-Man is a super hero with a great rogues gallery. universal understood this and made not only a great Spider-Man similator ride, but one of the BEST similator, dark rides, and overall rides of all time. The Spider-Man ride has gotten many legit outstanding critical reviews and has won actual awards. so when THAT is your competition, that is the bar you have to reach. HAVE TO. No one wants to chase Spider -Bots, we wana help Spidey fight Doc Ock, and Green Goblin.
Again I don't disagree, but Marvel is involved. So I have to assume that they have a lot of input into how the characters are portrayed and what story to tell.

I have to also assume they didn't want to basically do the same story as Universal. So they wanted to differentiate it somehow.

Satan, his little demons, and the noticeably hotter room at the end aren’t overtly obvious?
You may think its overtly obvious, now as an adult. But to a little kid the transitions happen so fast they don't have time to process it. So unless their parents tell them the story most won't "get it". Again its not overtly obvious. Whereas Spidey throwing a punch at Doc Ock is completely obvious.

So in order to tone down the violence I have to assume they went this route instead.

Is there any Disney Parks attraction around the world where an actual punch is seen being thrown? I can't think of one, maybe the shadows in Pirates when you first go into town. But if someone can tell me if there is one I'd be curious to know.

Then they should have used a different hero. should have made it an Iron Man ride. where one of stark's inventions goes crazy, hell, make it ultron. he has come back and run amok in a stark iron man armor warehouse and has taken over iron man suits and you have to help iron man destory the suits and capture ultron. you can still use the wireless hand gestures to activate repulsers Iron Man gives you. Since like Mission Break Out the rides do not take place in the current time line Iron Man can still be alive. BOOM! Fixed it. But if you are going to use Spidey, any comparison to the Universal ride is completley fair and you damn well better use some villains in it.

Obviously the emphasis on this ride is “FAMILY” attraction. Chapek even mentioned family ride when talked about it. They don’t really need 2 rides within 50 yards of each other where you’re battling monsters and aliens on both. Avengers will be the thrill ride. The tech, production value, “feel factor and fun factor will be what makes or brakes this ride. The emphasis on this ride is FUN, not intensity. Those rides will be 50 yards down the avenue and both to the left and right.
Great family rides that make effective use of their subject matter to create amazing experiences are awesome. Sitting in a vehicle shooting virtual webs at spider-bots sounds like an insultingly crud use of the character and boring as blazes. Expectations set at negative six. :D

Sounds like a six flags ride with a little makeup. That's about it.

Well that maybe not true for you or some others here. Maybe you guys all knew the story before going on the ride, I don't know. But to everyone I know it was not obvious unless you knew the story. YMMV. Also I wasn't saying kids were dumb, just that the attraction isn't overtly saying "HEY KID YOU JUST DIED, GOOD LUCK IN HELL!".

While I don't disagree it should include classic Spidey villains. I'm sure Disney wants to keep the human-on-human fighting to a minimum in their attractions, hence the bots.
It's a ride all about web-slinging. If they did put a surprise villain at the end (and I really hope they do), there won't be punching. We'll be webbing them into immobility.

I disgaree. it is very obvious you get hit and die and go to hell. You don't have to know the story of Mr. Toad to understand simple visuals dude.

I and my siblings knew exactly where we were. And we were children when we rode.

Children are not stupid. I used to operate Toad and the kids knew what happened at the end.

Well I guess us of the older generation were just dumb then. Because I remember going on during my grad night in the 90s and everyone in my entire class (upwards of 700 kids, I went to a large HS) had to be told what was happening.

So my personal experience is that yes some (maybe even a large portion) understand it. But its not done in such a in your face way that its completely obvious. My opinion, so again YMMV.

As a highschooler you didn't understand you got hit and died and went to hell at the end? like...seriously?

I didn't say me. I said my class, I was the one who explained it to everyone.

And yes seriously. We here know every detail of the attractions. But to someone who either has never been or doesn't go all the time, things are not as obvious. Also people miss a lot, especially if they only ride these attractions once. There is so much stimulation, and with Toads you fly by really quick so its easy to miss details.
