Current State of Contemporary?

I haven't been around these boards in a while but we are now considering staying at the Contemporary in May. I remember rumors of them tearing down the wings. What's the latest? What's the construction going on there if any?

The north wing has been demo'd. The south wing remains. Construction on the north wing site continues for the new tower building rumored to be a new DVC property. Nothing has been confirmed or officially announced. :animwink: The old Food & Fun Center is closed and is being made into a new sit-down eatery. There is a temporary quick-service spot set up on the 4th floor concourse near the Outer Rim across from the Concourse Steakhouse. As of December they were not offering the refillable mugs because they did not have the refill stations set up. There are only a couple hot selections available. The flatbread pizzas are great. Later this year the Concourse Steakhouse will be removed to make room for the permanent quick-service spot for the resort. The new game room is open but not as big as the old one. It is also located on the 4th floor.

All rooms have been remodeled. I like the decor a lot but in numerous ways it's not the most practical. I've read lots of reviews about slacking Mousekeeping. I had hoped our December trip would be an exception but it was not. I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of our room and lack of attention to cleaning details in many of the common areas (lots of crud in the corners, dust, etc.) That was quite a disappointment when you spend that much money. You know?

Wow! Thanks...that helps. My only question now is the pool area....is it affected at all by all the construction. It's not a huge thing since we would only be staying 2 nights and then moving over to Old Key West, but I don't want to show up to a big dust bowl and noise. (Thinking, priceline commercial.)

We didn't swim but we walked out past the pool taking the shuttle back from WL one night. The main pool is well away from the construction site. There's a slide and plenty of area to relax. Then out by the lake is another pool. It's pretty basic. As far as I know there aren't any planned rehabs for the Contemporary pools so you should be okay there. I can't really tell ya too much about the cleanliness or condition of the pools. Like I said, we didn't go swimming while we were there.

Anyone know when the Concourse Steakhouse will be removed?

It is closing sometime in May. I think around the 10th.

We loved the Contemporary when we were there in December! We did not have any issues with cleanliness, etc. The room was great, the service was great and the location could not be better! If you can afford it, I highly recommend it! :sohappy:
