Current Soakage Factor At Splash Mountain

You can get really soaked if there are large or heavy people in the rows in front of you weighting down the front of the boat. Of course, you can always duck down behind them.

When we were there in July, my wife asked the CM at loading "where is the driest place gonna be on the ride?" The CM looked at the people in front of us and told her to sit in the back row and with the others that were riding with us, she would be fine.....all worked out pretty well for her!

In my experience, the real dampness comes from a water cannon, not from the splashdowns. Splashdowns are like droplets fanning over your shirt and face. The water cannon shoots buckets up water up into the air with a landing zone in the rides path.

When you get to the bridge that crosses in front of the main drop at Splash Mountain, I always look to see how wet the ground is. But that is not the best tell. Watch a log drop from the big hill in front. As it falls, look for a big blast of water from your right to your left. (You may also hear a large whoosh sound.) If you see this large blast travel up over the drop tracks even farther to your left, then there is a real good chance you will get pretty wet later unless you take measures to keep yourself dry. If you do not see this blast of water, you will likely only get a sprinkling, not a baptism. As others have said, if you want to get baptized, go to Islands of Adventure. That is soaked!

I like the ride but not getting wet as well. I wear a poncho and don't care how much of an idiot I look like or how many people point and laugh. I'm dry and happy. Tell her to wear a poncho.

On the main drop, the main soak is from the end of the tunnel as you exit. Water splashing up the walls will get anyone in any row, those at the front can get additionally wet from the bow wave as the log free floats again.

The jets and splash as seen from the bridge are mainly for show. They only get riders wet who've just left load and potentially the air blast effect also reaches spectators too.

Gauging how wet you'll get it down to the water level in the lowest trough and how much water is coming down the main drop into the trough. This is regulated and controlled, and is independent of the logs actually coming down the drop. They're on rail at that stage, not water.

Front row is highly likely to get wet, but there are no guaranteed dry seats.

But it is a water flume ride.

It's a water ride...getting wet is always a risk and depends on timing of water cannons, position of your seat in the boat and mass of people in the boat. Plainly put if getting wet will ruin your good time then skip it...if you can roll with the punches then laugh it off and enjoy.

One year my cousin was bragging about how she didn't get soaked once on any of the rides as where on some raft ride at Universal and as she's ranting a big wave came up and she got drenched more then anyone has on all the rides put together.

This.

The drop will get you sort of wet depending on water level, where you sit, weight disitribution, etc.

However there are cannons that shoot across the briar patch. Sometimes they are set to land right on the boats just before they enter Chick A Pin hill. If you get lucky/unlucky and the cannons are on, are set to the correct distance, and happen to land in your boat (and on your seat) then that is where you do get quite wet. It is all luck of the draw - even when the cannons are set to land on the boats, some make it through, and some dont.

Getting wet can be a problem, because sometimes it makes your thighs raw after rubbing. So I can understand why some people don't want to get soaked.

I'm one of those "weird" folks who hopes not to get too wet on a water ride. I'm a girly girl...it's hard enough looking decent in the park without adding "soaking wet" to the list of problems. It's Florida...it's humid...that makes it difficult to dry out sometimes. But I do really love the ride. It is one of the best dark rides in all of Disney once you're inside. The drop is fine. I don't really enjoy getting wet but it's a small price to pay to enjoy the rest of the ride. I may have to do the poncho trick this year.

Just before I load I look at the seat and get an idea of whether the last person sitting there got slammed and kind of prepare myself for whats to come. The worst I got was getting stopped just beside the waterfall off the sides and couldnt stop getting wet until the ride resumed.

I hate getting drenched on Splash Mountain. Maybe just a little spray is ok, but common, this isn't a water park, and none of the other rides in the park get you wet. If it weren't for that blasted water cannon at the base of the big drop that gets you right before the 2nd hill lift, it'd be fine. Even on the big drop if I duck my head below the top of the car I can miss getting that wet. And I used to have better luck with that 2nd hill lift water cannon, but the last several times I've ridden- no- was right next to it- didn't matter where in the car I was sitting. Even when I rode this past January, it was chilly in the morning, but whoop-dee-do, as soon as it got to 65-70deg or somewhere thereabouts, on came the drenching cannons! And I know I could just bring a poncho or something- but I hate lugging extra junk with me. They should simply cut that 2nd water cannon- or at least aim it to not DRENCH you- the ride's fun enough without it.

For the most part you will be fine on Splash Mountain. Unless you are on the right side and just happen to be unlucky to have that fountain catch you as you are going by. That's about a 5-10% chance I would guess. Even the drop should be just a moist wetness for the most part. It won't ruin your day.

If you ever WANT to get soaked then I would suggest Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure. Or Pluto's Barges at the same park. I don't know if it is possible to even be anything but drenched on that latter ride.

I've learned from experience that if you want to avoid getting wet on the drop, sit in the front row and duck your head. The water goes right over and nails the second row.
