Cruise Ships vs. Theme Parks

I was listening to a news broadcast about the new Disney Dream cruise ship just being delivered to Port Canaveral and in the report they said the cruise ship business is bigger than the Theme Park business. I think they were referring to Disney specifically and I find that hard to believe. Did anyone else hear that too?

Well, I am a total Disney Fan both of the Disney cruises and the parks. While I can say that the Disney cruise was awesome, it could not touch the experience of being in the parks. Both are pretty magical and leave no details out when it comes to customer service but the cruise is a more laid back vacation while the parks are filled with a ton to do! What I am trying to say is that I guess it just depends on how laid back you would want your vacation to be. My family has decided to alternate and go on a Disney Cruise one year then the next go to the parks, that way we can get our Disney fix every year!!!!!!!!!:animwink:

Thanks zooey, I appreciated the reference to read, and I did read it all, except I didn't see the cruise ships specifically mentioned. I know there is another ship being built right now also, so Disney must see a big future in that to be going forward and ordering another, even with the recession ongoing - though I'm sure it takes a couple years to build one.

Dh and I havve discussed taking the disney cruise, but, for the cost, id rather spend a week or two at the parks. There's just much to do. I agree, though, I think it depends on the person. Everyone vacations differently. I've got friends that take several cruises a year.

There is so much to do on sea days that you will pretty much go from morning to night without a break...that is is you can stay awake. On port days you have the opportunity to visit a foreign place and explore on your own or take part in an excursion through Disney

Just Google for Disney Cruise Personal Navigator, they are given out daily on the cruise with a listing of each days events:

Here are some http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-stateroom-navigator.htm

24 days away from going on a combo cruise/parks vacation! 4 days on the DREAM, and then 3 days at the POLY!

So, lucky me! I will be able to personally evaluate all of the pluses and minuses!

I am so excited! Wow!

I have to say that I have never been interested in a cruise before, only going because it is a big family reunion, but I'm excited to have the opportunity.

Now, all they need to do is figure out how to put the Haunted Mansion on a boat.

I've been on non-Disney cruises and they're awesome. I imagine a Disney cruise is much better. I can definitely see how the ships are more profitable. If Disney ships had casinos, they'd really be raking it in.

The feedback I get from most of my clients is that they prefer to do WDW first, followed by the cruise, as the cruise tends to be more relaxing, and the parks not so much.

Please give us feedback after your trip!

I was told that as well, but that's just the way it worked out.
I'll be happy to post a trip report after we return.

It makes total sense... While on a cruise ship, you spend TONS of money. Excurions, drinks, auctions, games, "duty-free" stuff, souveniers... Guest spend on a cruise has GOT to be wayyyyyyy higher than guest spend at the parks. And that's just the tip of the iceberg (ha).
