Hi All

My wife and I are going on the 3 day Disney Cruise in April and we heard it is better to pay for gratuities ahead of time on the Disney cruise website. I was just wondering if anyone has every done this and how it works> Also what is the normal for a 3 days cruise.

You don't pay ahead of time. At least that I know of.

There are suggested gratuities. So much per person per day for your waiter, assistant waiter, head waiter, and porter.

That is all on the website.

You will get envelopes on the second to last day of your cruise. You can either put cash in them or you can go to the cruise services desk, and use a credit card to charge the tips. The desk will give you a receipt with the dollar amount on it that you can then put in the envelope.

It's really not that difficult.

I bring cash, and then depending on the service during the cruise, adjust it when I tip. It has always been adjusted up :)

You can pay ahead of time. It makes things easy when it comes time to give the tips, you are given vouchers in the tip envelopes; then you just hand them out. If you want to adjust up, just add some cash.

we too paid in advance on our cruise in december, and it was also more than suggested, except for the head waiter.

I find it strange that you tip based on the number of days your cruise lasts and not by the food that's ordered. does anyone know if the recommended tip changes based on the cabin you select? And why can't disney world, specifically the dining plan, be as simple? Plus, we tip much more at the world so it made no sense at all to us that service on the ship surpassed disney world in every instance.

I suspect most people would love to tip in advance at disney world as long as the service was adequate.

That is how I do it. You pay for them before you step on the cruise and then you hand the the voucher at the end. I tend to give me if the person earns it.

Many people pay in advance. It's easy, and no waiting in line at guest services. It's super convenient. I personally wouldn't go over the amount until you see how the week goes.

Although, that being said, I have never been on a single cruise where I felt like they didn't deserve more than the standard amounts.

The tips are the same for every category except concierge. Concierge would be different.

At Palo, we do tip based on what we think the meal would cost anywhere else.
