CRT VS Arkeshus

One Little Spark...
In my book, CRT. But not by a landslide. Here's a breakdown.

Host Princess

CRT - Cinderella
Akershus - Belle

Additional Princesses

CRT - Aurora, Arial, Snow White, Belle
Akershus - Cinderella, Arial, Aurora, Jasmine

Food

CRT - Table Service with a waiter, food made to order. The food isnt overly themed or special, outside of the birthday desserts, but it is quite good. Menus can be found online.
Akershus - Buffet themed to Norway. Lots of fresh fish, lox, etc. Pretty good food. Certainly interesting food.

Decor and Environment

CRT - Are you kidding? It's the Castle! Though, the decor really is too mideaval and I think would suit Aurora better then Cinderella...but it's still the Castle!
Akershus - Looks pretty much the same on the inside as it does on the outside. Nothing really stands out. It's very pretty Norwegian architecture, but certainly doesn't feel very grand.

If you're looking for atmosphere, we preferred CRT. The food wasn't bad.

I recall the food being better at Akershus but remember that the tables were very close together, at least where we were seated.

Both are enjoyable but would probably pick CRT over Akershus if I were to do it again because of the atmosphere and interactions with the guests.

Additional things to consider:

CRT- 2 TS
Akerhaus - 1 TS

Mentioned above:

CRT - staff brings you initial spread, followed by as much of any of it you request
Akerhaus - Buffet, go and grab your own

I lean to CRT as well

We have settled for Askerhaus when we couldn't get CRT (used to be sooo much harder to grab a ressie)......you will enjoy either!! AND both will give access to the park before opening!!

Ah yes. I was addressing lunch/dinner. Totally forgot about breakfast!

We usually use the dining plan, and we do Akershus because it's one credit instead of two. The food quality was pretty similar at both places. It is fun dining in the castle, but it's not a signature dining experience.

Ok- I've only done lunch and dinner at CRT and Akershus (trying breakfast at both on our upcoming trip)...but here are my thoughts from our visits to date...

1. If it's a first princess meal, CRT always trumps Akershus for me. i.e. eating in the castle beats eating in a castle like setting. Even as an adult - I get that giddy "I'M EATING IN THE CASTLE!!!" feeling. :D

2. If we're looking at service...we've found the service to be better at Akershus.

3. If we're looking at food quality...Akershus has the edge...but it's really the cold bar that puts it over for us. The plated/served entrees for lunch and dinner are OK at Akershus- nothing overly authentic or crazy (I wish!!!), but that cold bar is meat, cheese and shrimp happiness. Akershus also times it better IMO. CRT, while a slow meal, always tends to rush us through our appetizers and bring us entrees before we're done. Flip side- Akershus usually gives us plenty of time to fully enjoy the cold bar buffet before serving us our entrees.

4. If we're looking at ease of the check in process and the wait...edge to CRT. Last time we went, CRT wouldn't let us check in more than 10 min out, but it was a very organized process. And while the M&G area with Cindy downstairs was very crowded on our second visit, it was still very clear when your table was ready + the outdoor waiting area is sheltered and the indoor waiting area post check in is - well- indoors. On the flip side, you wait outside for Akershus and I don't know if it's the language barrier or what, but check in and the wait always feels chaotic to us.

5. I know cost is a big factor...but when you figure you pay tax/gratuity when you book CRT...the price really isn't that far off from what you pay for Akershus. If you're doing DDP- Akershus is the better use of credit, while I'd never use dining credits on CRT if only on the regular dining plan...i.e. I'd just pay oop.

6. The extras...while both afford you pictures, I like that the kids leave with wands/swords & wishing stars from CRT.

7. Princesses...first off...there are no guarantees on which princesses you'll see. I mean, Cindy is pretty much a given at CRT, but you are not guaranteed yellow dress Belle at Akershus- i.e. it might be Ariel or Aurora. I know DD3 was heartbroken that Jasmine was not at CRT on our 2nd visit there- i.e. we saw here there on our first trip to CRT and she sort of expected her. Still - no guarantees.

8. Time...both meals are longer than your avg character meal. CRT has taken us close to 1.50 hours each time and Akershus around 1.25 hrs. So, if you want to shave a little time off of your dining experience you might look to Akershus.

I've never been to either, but I'm going to CRT in December. If you've never been to eat in the castle, that's what I'd do (obviously)!
