I've been there in late Jan. twice in the last 5-6 years, and both trips had the smallest crowds I've ever seen and I've been there almost every possible time of the year.

Hello,

We are going to go not this but next Jan. I inquired with WDW about when is the best time to go as far as crowds. They gave the times below. End of Jan early Feb is in the least crowded time. But don't go end of Feb, it gets more crowded. See below what they sent me.

This is from WDW Guest Relations when I inquired about the best times to go.

They said these are the trends but that they could change. They don't want you comming back saying I booked at this time because you said it would be empty.

Not sure if you want to read the whole thing, but a midway down it gives the times for least, average and most crowded.

Here is what they sent me:

Thank you for contacting the WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT!

There is no way to accurately gauge future attendance patterns at any of the
WALT DISNEY WORLD theme parks. While patterns do emerge from past attendance,
new attractions and parks, special celebrations, special events, and the
addition of Disney's Wide World of Sports and other facilities have greatly
altered previous trends.

Actual park attendance figures are privileged information available only to a
very few top level Disney management personnel.

As a general rule weekends tend to be a little less active than are weekdays
although the difference is very slight.

The busiest and most crowded periods at all WALT DISNEY WORLD theme parks are
holiday periods and holiday weekends, with Christmas / New Year week the busiest of all. Other peak periods include the summer months, June through August, when children are out of school and family vacations are planned. Individual
holidays such as Valentine's Day, Easter, July 4th, and Thanksgiving, are also
extremely busy.

The listings below offer a very generalized pattern of crowd density at
representative times of year. Accurate trends are difficult to determine,
though, on a property as vast and diverse as the WALT DISNEY WORLD Vacation
Kingdom. A crowded day at the MAGIC KINGDOM Park, for example, does not
necessarily mean long lines at EPCOT or Disney-MGM Studios.

>> Estimates, below, are representative only and are not to be construed
>> as firm
patterns. <<
________________

LEAST CROWDED - means there may be some lines, but by and large most attractions may be visited with minimal waiting;

>> 2nd week of January through 1st week of February
>> Week after Labor Day until end of September
>> Week after Columbus day until Veterans Day weekend
>> Week after Veterans day until Thanksgiving
________________

AVERAGE ATTENDANCE - those times when many people are visiting but the line wait
times are still comfortable

>> 1st week of January
>> 2nd week of February through Presidents' week
>> End of February through the 3rd of week of March
>> 2nd week of April through 1st week of June
>> Last week of August through Labor Day
>> 1st 2 weeks of October
>> Thanksgiving week through December 22
_________________

MOST CROWDED - reflects periods when lines may form in all areas and wait times
of an hour or more may be expected at the most popular attractions.

>> Martin Luther King Weekend
>> Presidents weekend
>> Last week of March and First half of April
>> 2nd week of June through 3rd week of August
>> Columbus Day weekend
>> Veterans Day weekend
>> December 21 through and including New Year's Day

No problem.

And I think they are good if:

you don't mind the parks close earlier

The weather is chillier (to respond to your second question). I have been told Jacket at night and maybe morning.

We went in late Feb once, a little crowded on some days but pretty empty. But it was a little too chilly for swiming acording to my wife. I would have like to have gone in.

We've been in late February we had three warm days i.e. we swam, and two rather chilly days. We needed warm jackets in the morning.
The crowds were great.
As far as February goes you should avoid President's day and Daytona 500.
We're going the last week of February again! Have fun!

I agree, I would prefer it warmer. But if I can avoid the crowds, they can dump ice cubes down my pants for all I care.

My family went Jan 19-24, 2003. The parks seemed totally empty. However, on some rides like star tours, they only had one simulator going so there were still long lines. But on the whole we walked into everything. Fast past for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster wasn't even on because you could go in the regular lines in about five minutes.

It was warm for a couple of days. I even wore shorts. But then it got cold. It went down to 29 one night. Of course it was really cold everywhere in the USA that night. It was 6 in my hometown in Mississippi. That kind of cold doesn't happen much.

** Beware of the cheerleading competitions **

When you call to make your reservations ask about any events taking place. We almost went right in the middle of a cheerleading event and then moved our reservations to Jan 19. We know someone who did go during that time and they said there were jr high girls everywhere. It was this forum that alerted me to the cheerleading events and I want to thank you all!!!!!!!

Agree one 100%. Though we went in March and the park was packed anyway. The problem we had was we were booked at the All Star Sports and it was our first time (and last) at that hotel. The cheerleaders were staying there and it was loud as anything. We wound up switching to Dixie Landings where we had usually stayed and were happy again.
