I have never gone in the summer months but this year with my Grandson heading to Kindergarten we need to go earlier. Does anyone know what crowd levels are like that last week before all schools go in? Should we try to rebook at a later time? Any ideas greatly appreciated!

The first 2 weeks of August are normal summer crowds. The last 2 weeks of August used to be pretty light, with much of the country back in school and the rest of the country getting ready to head back to school. As a result, Disney frequently offers "Free Dining" and "Room Only" discounts during the last 2 weeks of August and September. These discounts tend to draw more people in. As a result, crowds tend to be moderate but not crowded. If you go, watch for discounts!. Try mousesavers.com and hope you have a great time!

We have 2 school aged children and just booked our third consecutive August trip. When my DD was in Kindergarten we took her out of school for an October trip, I surprisingly felt pretty bad about it. She missed 6 days, and ever since we have stuck with August. We like to stay at least 8 nights so it works best for us.
Anyways, it was already mentioned that early August is still busier, as long as you book more mid-late August you will find the crowds dwindling as more schools start their new school year. The later you can get away with the better. I've been very happy with the crowd level on our trips, we don't wait more than 20 minutes for most rides; of course the popular ones will always run higher. I swear Soarin must have at least a 60 minute all year.

maybe October might be better if timing works out. A little cooler lighter crowds and Mickey's not so scary Halloween and all the decorations how cool

We were there this past year the week you are planning on going this year. the crowd levels were about a 5 or lower at some points. It was hot, but nothing we couldn't tolerate and we are from up North. (you just have to know how to plan ahead and drink a lot of water, apply sunscreen diligently). Don't tour at the hottest part of the day, use that for naptime, resort time, pool time. Also, look into sites/apps that tell you the busiest park each day and try to avoid that park. That's how we did it and had a wonderful trip, and let me tell you I normally tour the World in Feb, and I actually liked it better in Aug. :)

October is my all time favorite time to visit and that's why we pulled my DD out of school when she was in Kindergarten a couple years ago. But I did not enjoy the guilty feeling, and my DH is no longer on board with that many vacation day absences. At least we got in one more Halloween party. "Boo to you", the song still gets stuck in my head, and I love it.

I'm a teacher and have one school aged child. So we have do go in summer. Our last 2 trips were the last week in August and I felt the crowds were very manageable. Like someone said earlier about 20 minute wait lines on most rides. We always got to the parks very early, took nap/pool mid day then stayed out late. This year we are planning for the 3rd week of Aug. Hopefully that week will be manageable too.

According to TouringPlans.com, the last week of August is a 5 out of 10 from Monday through Saturday that week.
