Just checking what the crowd control will be like from Jan 9 - Jan 15 next year? Just to prepare myself.....
I heard that it's quite quiet by then and the school kids have died down.... which is good....

Thanks

The only time I can think of in January where crowds are "big" is when the Marathon is going on.Other than that it seems to be fairly quiet in January.

I went in January 2007 and it was very pleasant. The first day (8th) it was a little more hectic because the marathon was completed that previous day so everyone was still around. But even so there was always sitting room on the monorails and the buses had rows of empty seats as well. Also the weather was a refreshing 65-70 degrees each day. I only had to use fast pass twice (soarin and big thunder mountain) because the wait time was never more than 30 minutes.

One downfall though is there are often ride refurbishments going on in January. Also, there aren't any real special events going on. I do have to say though that when I went the christmas decorations were up till the 12th in the parks so you might be able to catch a bit of the christmas cheer a little late!

I would say you're going to like it then though. I know I'm taking a trip in January on my college winter break again, this time with friends, because I loved it so much the first time.

The crowds for the marathon weekend are not bad. The only real crowds are people waiting for the resort buses at 4:00 am or at the monorail stations between 6:00 am and 10:00 am. Races are on Friday (5k at AK), Sat. (1/2 at Epcot), Sun. (marathon at Epcot). Friday isn't an issue, as the race is finished and clear by the tim AK opens. Be aware that Saturday and Sunday road closures will affect transportation to the parks - particularly on Sunday, as the races doesn't offically finish until around noon. Runners will still be going through AK, DHS, and Epcot when the parks open. This doesn't affect attraction schedules, but it may add substantial time to the rdie getting to the parks.

I think the longest wait time I have endured the last few January's i went was 20-25minutes and that was for Spaceship Earth this last Jan. which is understandable as it was at park opening and it had just been re-opened not to long before after the refurb. For illuminations that night(which was a sunday night)we could have sat just about anywhere we wanted to as the park was empty. It was in mid 50's and alot of people left as they thought it was too cold but me in t-shirt and shorts thought it felt great as Indy was in the low teens for a high when I left so 50 was a heatwave!

I was there Jan 6th - 20th 2007 during the Marathon and MLK crowds. The whole trip was fantastic and I can't remember waiting more than 30 mins for an attraction although it was generally much less and almost walk-on.

I think the longest we waited was 30 mins for Pirates. We even got on Peter Pans Flight in around 10 minutes!

You should not have many problems. You are avoiding the busiest weekend, which is the MLK holiday weekend. I've been there during that time - my birthday is around the same time! :) - and it can get pretty hectic, but nothing like the summer or holiday crowds.

The marathons are actually within the parks? Wow. How does that work? We're going from Dec 31st to Jan 10. We're kind of expecting some crowds until Jan 4th or 5th (that first Sunday/Monday) but we're hoping the rest of the trip won't be too crowded. We're going with first timers so we're hoping to not have super high crowds so we can get them to all the park things they want to see. What can we realistically expect crowd wise? We've been twice in May, once in early October and once in Feb. The only crowds that really made us say "wow" were the early to mid May crowds particularly this last May.

mitchzmagic,

That is our usual time of year to go. We usually go in late January and the crowds are not bad. There are tour groups that are there in mass every year, but even with those the wait times are fine.
