Cracks in my Beloved Coffee Cup

I got back from WDW on October 4 with 2 new coffee cups in tow. They are one of my favorite souvenirs because I get to use them every day.

Anyway, one of the cups has cracks in the glaze on the inside of the cup. I think that it is only the glaze and not the cup itself that is cracked.

This cup hasn't been in the dishwasher (I love it too much to risk fading the design), and might have been in the microwave to warm up the coffee.

I have the receipt.

Should I try to send it back to WDW?

Where should I send it?
Merchandising? The shop where I bought it (CBR gift shop)?

And ideas or experience with this?

Thanks.

PS--I know that my trip report is way overdue. I am waiting for the muses to visit.

Contact Guest Relations - tell them what you've told us - they may send you a free replacement, if not they will tell you how to go about getting your cup replaced

I know you are all concerned about my beloved Caribbean Beach coffee mug.

WDW Merchandising told me to send it back for a refund. They are out of stock (I've had this cup less than a month). My DH suspects that they have been pulled because this is a recurring quality problem.

So today I will encase my treasure in bubble wrap and send it off, never to be seen again.

I'm sorry, I need to take a moment.............

ok--I'm better now.

Awwww ((hugs)). I know I'd feel the same way if I were forced to give up my jumbo Tigger mug.

Like 8 years ago we started collecting coffe cups from resorts we stayed at (our 1st was a white Dixie Landings one!) We got a P.O. and C.B one too. Then we stayed at CSR and the mug was bigger, we also have YC and BC. However we could not find one at Poly  I am drinking out of BC right now, it is my favorite. BTW one of my favorite winnie the pooh mugs is like that, the glazing is craked, but the mug is fine, it doen't leak or anything.

We also started collecting little magnetic picture frames from each resort. But some don't carry them. How anoying is that?

You know you could only get sympathy for this type of thing from your fellow wdwmagic friends. Non-Disney freaks would be like "you people need help" But, we here feel your pain and completely understand... ;)

Yellow Shoes.... I know how you must be feeling. I treasure my WDW Coffee Cup Collections. Maybe they will get new stock in soon. Its funny that in 2002 I missed getting a CBR coffee mug because they run out of stock then. I did end up picking up a mug during the 2003 visit :sohappy: . Grabbed 2 mugs while I was at it.

Hoping things work out for you.

I can completely empathize. Although it did not come from the parks or resorts, my Eeyore mug from the Disney Store was a constant companion for almost 2 years. Now he holds pens on the computer desk.

I have observed a moment of silence for your loss.

I think Disney will send you a new one...if you send yours back of course. Disney will do their best to please their guests. Let's us know when you get your new mug.

I know exactly how you feel because a month after my program I lost my Rice Bowl from japan. The insides and outside of the bowl were shaped like a cat. *Sighs* I wonder if japan still carries those. Oh well, i'll be finding that out in a year when I return to work for disney. *hugs*

Has anyone bought an insulated mug that they sell soda in and also rootbeer floats in at the ice cream shop on main street? It is like $6.95 for a cup filled with choice of beverage? Each cup has a different Disney scene on it in color. I have been collecting these cups for abouth 8 or 9 years. I have some that are that old that still look in perfect condition. However, the ones I bought recently have had the picture wear off within the first week. Did Disney change these in the past year? Did anyone else have a problem with this? When I was there in July before I even got back home it was all wearing off. I did not even have a dishwasher to put it in. It was only rinsed out at night. We brought it back to the Harbor House where we had bought it. The manager told us that they all do that now and that it only good as a collectible not to use every day. He did give me another mug. However within the first week I was home it now has about half of the design missing. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for your help.

I was hoping they would replace the mug, but they told me it was out of stock. What would make me happy would be for them to replace it with another Caribbean Beach mug, but I guess that is unlikely.

So now the dilemma continues.

Part of me is wondering how dangerous the cracks in the glaze really are. Is it a cosmetic issue, or could there be an underlying structural flaw? What are the possible issues with toxicity from the crazed glaze? Am I risking my health from some contaminant, or just gambling with the potential for the cup to shatter some day?

So many questions.

Thank you all for understanding my pain. My DH just says, "Send the thing back and get you money." Poor thing doesn't understand that this is soooo not about money.

The good news is that now you HAVE to go back! Since they can't send you a replacement, the only course of action is to return to the holyland that we all call disney and bond with another mug. Only then will you reach peace.
