Ok so what are some kind things you do for a CM whose been nice or what do you say? I feel like every trip of my life so far I've kind of forgotten about the CM's due to my age and next trip i want to be able to let them know they're doing a great job but not in a goofy way that'll make them go "that kid is creepy". haha well this can be a pretty open discussion so talk away!

Thanks guys:wave:

Hmm...
[Flashback]
"Well, hello there. Such a cute young man you are!"
"Will you marry me?"
"Oh well, Prince Charming wouldn't take to that well."
"I'm serious!"

Uh... no... I don't have any suggestions at the moment. :lookaroun

Well I had a wonderful experience with a Guest Services CM named Jeff (see my TTA Evac post) and I made a point to email guest services today to tell them how helpful and nice he was. I think people complain a lot more often then they compliment, so I always try to remember to give kudos for good service too.

I chatted with a very nice lady in the Emporium while checking out on Saturday and wished her a nice evening. I find there's a lot of very easy-going, friendly CM's around and I make a point to chat with them a little and tell them to have a great day.

1 - talk to them and say "Thank you"

2- I carry a notebook and jot down names of the best CMs. When I get home I email Disney about them - name, date/time and location. For the very good ones I'll stop by Guest Services on the day and fill out a Guest Appreciation card.

Heading for the great escape.
I always say excuse me as I step over them as they fall to thefloor trying to slow my advance to the rides at opening. They always say your welcome in reply.

When we went to WDW last year for Christmas, on Christmas day we took in bags of candy and started handing them out at security and then one to each CM we met, wishing them a Merry Christmas and thanking them for showing up to work on a day when most want to be with family. Only a few turned the candy down, of course we let the kids do the handing out and everything was prewrapped, individually packaged, like snack size snickers, M&M's, & skittles. The kids had a great time, and many of the CM's seemed to appreciate the recognition. Of course this doesn't replace a more important written note for that service which is above and beyond.

Just treat them nicely and with respect. When they say "Hello", "Good Morning" "Good Evening" etc... Don't just shrug and ignore them, respond. And when a CM does something nice just say thank you. Trust me it's the greatest feeling when a guest says thank you.

I'll try to chat with some CM's the next time i see them in a store or on the street. I just didn't want to walk up to them and bother them while they were working. I'll make a big effort to liven up their day.

That's a great idea! I would have loved that.

I will say as a former CM, anything you can do is great. Even if it taking time to say thank you and share a smile or coming to chat. The vast majority of people love the brief distraction from the "job." It can be trying saying hello to hundreds of people and not hearing it back, so when someone stops to chat, even better. They do have to work, but sharing a brief back and forth, especially if you are saying thank you and that you have been before, it really is a HUGE perk of the job.

I also HUGELY second the notebook idea. If you can write a letter to a CM who does something special, it really makes your day. Best way is to write down the CM's name, shift (i.e. the time), and location, and then pop in at Guest Relations and ask them if you can write a couple brief notes. It really makes you feel great to get these letters. Trust me.

Acknowledge them. They probably get a lot of people who don't respond to their greetings. It makes your job a lot easier when the guests are nice too.

I can agree with Epcot82 and stitch1313. You don't know how great it is to hear back from guests. It really made my day when my manager handed me an Applause-o-Gram from a guest I had helped a week ago. In my short time at Disney, I've gotten letters and transcripts of emails too, and I read and save every one of them. I even email some of them and keep in contact with their families...not because I take the time, but because they asked me too.

One cool thing a lot of kids did at Christmas (in EPCOT at least) was coming around and handing us special buttons they had made to give to Cast Members. They were REALLY cool, and very creative and detailed.

I remember once last Christmas when I had a little girl, Brittany, come up to me that frequently visits where I work. I've had several children ask me to take pictures with them, but she came up to me, hugged me, and handed me a Christmas card on Christmas Day. It had our picture in it, Merry Christmas Chris Love, Brittany, and a candy cane. Now I'm not one to cry a lot, but I got a little teary eyed. I will never forget that, or her.

When you turn the Employee/Guest relationship into Friend/Friend, it makes it that much more fun to love waking up every morning to go into work.

Oh, so that was you?

Everyone greatly appreciated your gesture. You guys were quite the talk backstage.

But yea, saying "thank you" goes a long way. You see the best of people and the worst of people working at WDW. When parents let me interact with their children, it makes my day. The kids are at the number 1 vacation destination in the world, with thousands of amazing things around them, and their face lights up at the sight of a Mickey Premium Bar.

Nothing beat the time when I was walking down Main Street, right behind a mother and her 4 or 5 year old daughter. The mother kept saying "the castle is right around the corner...right around the corner". The little girls face was priceless when she first saw it. The mother started crying.

Usually they'll ask me if I need something or whatnot and I either will or won't but after, I often will make a joke or a nice comment or something and that just naturally sparks up a conversation. I don't know, I just have an easy time small talking with people, so it's not forced or fake or anything. Just take a few minutes to acknowledge them and chat if the situation is appropriate. Things like "thank you" and a simple "have a nice day!" also really go a long way.

I agree that kindness and respect can go a long way. Unfortunately I cannot remember any specific CM's that stood out as having superior service, but on the next trip I will make sure to remember them. I love small talking with CM's because it seems so casual and easy to do. Also, "thanks" and "have a wonderful day" always seem to go far. :D

I totally remember you guys! Something that small really made a big impact.

This halloween I was working the Jungle Treat Trek and was handed a little bag of candy by a little girl. Definetly one of the cuter things I've expierienced.

I'm very lucky to be able to have a role where I get to spend 10 minutes with a group of people. Eventhough I still have to spiel, I try to get to know each person as much as possible in that time allowed. I think the No. 1 thing that, as a CM, I appreciate is being told "Thank You."

Compliment coming from a guest yesterday (as told by a Coordinator)
Guest: That dude was wack, yo!
Coordinator: Is that good?
Guest: Yeah--Thanks man.
