Countdown to Extinction/DINOSAUR intensity question

Okay, so over the years I've heard many conflicting stories on CTX/DINOSAUR regarding if it was toned down at some point or not, and how much. I know the audio was altered at some points to be less intimidating, and of course various effects have been disabled over the years, but what about the movement of the vehicles? Many claim that the speed and movement was toned down as well at some point.

So does anyone know the answer for sure? And if so, when exactly were the changes made? When were the most recent changes (besides the recent laser effect)?

I apologize if there is a thread on this already, but if there is one, it's been a while.

My guess is that it was changed right after the Name change..I would honestly like to see a decent video of CTX when it first opened when the majority of props when they were working.

The audio of the carnotaurus chasing you was taken away, the jumping lizards no longer "jump" and the pterodactyl that swoops in no longer actually swoops due to safety concerns.

I know, I mentioned the audio and effects, but I'm mainly curious about the actual motion and speed of the vehicles and whether or not that was toned down. @marni1971 might know!

Last time I rode was in 2003 before the changes! I swear the Carnotaurus moved forward, and actually chased the vehicle for a couple of seconds, or did I imagine it? Definitely scared the crap out of me the first time I rode it.

The first time I rode it, the pterodactyl totally swooped! I could NOT get low enough in my seat!!! HAHAHA!

As for speed and smoothness in the vehicles, it's still a rough ride!! It slows down right as you get to the big guy and I always wanna scream GO GO GO! Haha!

I love that stupid ride! LOL

It still does. The first one anyway (on the left).

Regarding intensity, I never rode CTX but from what Im told it is the same EMV program as 1998.

I thought it was a pretty rough ride when it first opened. I enjoyed it then. Now I think it's even rougher and we just don't care to ride it at all. It's like the Indiana at dl.

I think the ride is rather tame. I actually tell people not to hold on to the bar. It makes it for more of a fun ride. I say use your knees to lock you in.

I got to ride this attraction several times before the park officially opened and I would be in the "it has been toned down" camp. I very well might be wrong as it is really impossible to notice minor or even major differences in "roughness" from rides taken months if not years apart. That being said, I could have sworn that the switch over from CTX to dinosaur came with a height requirement reduction due to the attraction being turned down a notch.

I believe you're right. I think it was 46 for CTX and now it is 40.

im one of many who really enjoy this ride. i would probably get pretty disappointed if it was "tamed" in any sense. this is actually the first im hearing about this.

I can't imagine what it was like if it's been toned down.

My wife tricked me and my son. She made it seem like nothing, but once I saw the pre-show video I knew she had fibbed a little. By the time we exited the ride I was about to set her up for a Stone Cold Stunner. However, my son and I love the ride and we rode it about 12 more times in a row after that.

I chipped a tooth on my second ride through.

Wow, that's crazy. It's amazing the difference in the ride between the front and back seat.
Part of it was my fault. On my first ride the jeep went through the course without any of the shaking. The CM told me that they "lost my signal" at unload and asked if I wanted to ride again. I said sure and not knowing what "lost my signal" meant I was expecting the same ride and relaxed back in my seat like I would for IASW. I got thrown around like a rag doll and smacked my face into the bar you hold onto.
