Countdown to Extinction: Dinoland USA Appreciation

All of this is fantastic, I had no idea that there was this much lore. I wish I had spent more time exploring the land, AK is great for these small details.

In sadder news, a site I’m not allowed to link to has reported that the alioramus animatronic is missing from Dinosaur. It could just be maintenance, but the last time a prehistoric animatronic went missing it never returned (giant snake thing in Ellen’s Energy Adventure)

The cool thing is that they’ve added static raptors to the scene as a b-mode. Super rare b-mode that was only ever talked about anecdotally and nearly impossible to find pics of.

I wanted to thank everyone who has shared their memories and insight on this thread— we’re going to be at AK in November and I’m planning to check out the Boneyard for the first time, and spend more time enjoying all the details throughout I never took time to appreciate. I’ve loved Dinosaur since I went on it with my sister for the first time in 2011. We loved it so much we bought matching Dinosaur themed t-shirts and I still have mine to this day. We actually made a special farewell trip to ride in in August and I’m thrilled to have another opportunity in November. I’m also one of the (evidently very few?) people who thought Primeval Whirl was great, but I’ve already had a few years to get over that loss at this point— I just want my other PW fans to know there are dozens of us, dozens!

Despite riding Dinosaur many times through the years, I had no idea about the old sponsorship remnants. My husband is a chemical engineer and always trying to get our kids into science and now we have one last chance to discover it all together. 😀

I find that most online Dinoland chatter is about trying to explain Rama; it's easy to find articles explaining the details of that section, but the comparatively normal looking parts go largely ignored, which is a shame.

I'm just shocked to hear that "replace the alioramus with raptors" has happened before!

Aww, I'm glad to hear it! And that's nice to hear about your sister and you enjoying it and getting to go on again! I've been on a couple of times with my sister, but it's the only ride that scares her. She loves thrill rides but hates Dinosaur; I hate thrill rides but love Dinosaur.

I never got to go on Primeval Whirl, but I like the premise. Despite being a dressed up Wild Mouse it seems very unique for being a ride that's entirely comedic; another thing I don't think Disney will do again.

Another video that shows better views and show how huge these AA's of the Styracosaurus and the Sauropod are.

I love Dinosaur, but sheesh, imagine if they got to make their planned dinosaur safari. Imagine amazing animatronics like these, but even more of them, and the staging going into just highlighting them instead of being scary.

Every single dinosaur fan on Earth was robbed the day those plans were killed.

The only way to enjoy Dinosaur once it closes is to play WDW Magical Racing Tour. The graveyard of attractions in racetrack form..While the game uses park ride music for each race track I'm not sure if the one used Dinosaur is from Countdown To Extinction??

What system is this for?

I’m old enough to remember my excitement when that was released, but my heart will always belong to OG Gameboy and Tetris.
It was the oddest version of the game with the characters having big heads on a side scrolling race track..The thing I really like is hearing versions of actual ride music..Where else will you hear the original Test Track 1.0 music Loop in 8bit format..

Eventually I would like to do posts for the different sections of Restaurant O'saurus, but for now, I would like to implore anyone who will be in Animal Kingdom soon, if you're lucky enough that all of Restaurant O'saurus is open, head to the right, all the way in the back, to "The Hip Joint" (student bunk) and read the rocks.

Whenever a student finishes their studies, they leave behind a rock.

Some of them are hilarious.

And at least two of them are inappropriate enough that I'm not sure if I can post them here. It really is exactly like a college dorm!

This is the most recent POV of the ride with missing Alliaramous and added Raptors..Gotta say the Carno's aren't looking as viscous as they did..They already know their fate and gave up on this vid..
