So ubiquitous in China are pedestrians glued to their cellphones, they have earned a nickname: the heads-down tribe.

In their natural habitat, tribe members can be seen texting, watching videos and conducting financial transactions, all while dodging cars, tripping at potholes and jamming up subway station entrances. The World Health Organization calls such behavior “distracted walking,” and it is a growing health concern in China, where pedestrian deaths make up a significant number of traffic-related fatalities.

This spring, the managers of a giant shopping mall in Xi’an, a city in the northwest province of Shaanxi, implemented a novel strategy to protect members of the tribe: pedestrian lanes specifically for cellphone users.

Colorfully painted paths outside the Bairui Plaza shopping mall have been designated for walkers who cannot be bothered to look up from their devices.<<

What a great idea. In fact, instead of installing them in the parks, they could just direct the guests to the slower parts of DtD and even the Parking Lots. Or maybe point them all to Toontown and Pixar Pier. The guests wouldn't know or care......

It kinda makes sense, but maybe not for a Disney theme park. If you consider that the use of mobile devices isn't going to stop in the foreseeable future public spaces might as well try to adapt. It's interesting to think about.

So I was watching to local SoCal Morning News on KTLA this morning. They were featuring a segment on what's hot this summer for kids. This very large wagon that can carry two kids/toddlers with plenty of storage was featured. And the guest proudly stated... And the Disney Parks approve this wagon.... Glad kids couldn't hear me talk to the TV ;)

It's the SUVs of strollers.

And it fits in Disney's size restrictions. Widths shouldn't be more than 36", and this is 34". Disney allows a very generous length of 52", and the Keenz is 35" (presumably without that add-ons, which wouldn't make it longer than 52".

It does what an SUV does: takes the footprint and throws a big box over it.
