Could Saving Mr. Banks bring Bert Back?

There's actually a rumor of having a Walt Disney meet and greet! Except, you can't really meet nor greet him... you just walk around his frozen body and pay $14.99 for a picture. Welcome to Disney!

*psst* Walt was cremated.

Still, posing in front of Walt's ashes would be much more exciting than standing in front of say...moon dust collected by Buzz Aldrin.
Want to know why we haven't been back to the moon in some forty years? IT'S BORING.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I can see the logic of this, but it'd be contingent upon seeing a resurgence of Mary Poppins' popularity. Also upon the pencil pushers to give people what they want. Like Captain Jack, Mother Gothel, Jack Skellington...

I thought that the trolley performers were actually the barbershop quartet, just on the trolley.

Shows how much I know...

7). Saving Mr. Banks (DIS) / Theaters: 2,110/ (2,095) / $4.6M to $4.8M
Looks like a cult film that will be quickly forgotten.

Actually, many people I have talked to (not necessarily Disney fans) have talked about seeing it, but maybe not this past week. It also seems to be an Oscar darling for Emma Thompson.

I think it will be a slow, steady picture that has legs. Certainly not a blockbuster, but a good return over time. Remember when that was the norm? This is a film for adults, which tend to simmer and don't have to rush out like teenagers and see it the weekend it opens.

Anyway, I hope it does well over time.

The trolley performers sing and dance on the train platform about 10 minutes prior to MK opening each day. They are part of the "Welcome Show" along with the Mayor, Fire Chief or Scoop Sanderson. They also perform down Main Street on the Trolley three different times in the morning. They have quite a cult following (@TrolleyFollower91).

Reviews were mixed,

I kind of agree with the comments that downplaying Disney as chain smoker revises history.
They say the author was even more extreme than they depicted.

I liked the move but will not recommend it to anybody except extreme Disney fans.

I wouldn't call Travers extreme. She was just extremely protective of her characters. She ended up hating the final cut of the film, which is why Mary Poppins' further adventures were never dramatized onscreen.

When the stage musical was being produced, she (well, specifically, her estate carrying out the instructions from her last will and testament) stipulated that the show could not be produced solely by Disney. This is why the musical was produced by Cameron Mackintosh, with Disney listed as the secondary producer. Additionally, no one involved in the making of the original film was allowed to have any direct role in the crafting of the musical. This, unfortunately, included the Sherman brothers. This is why no new songs were written for the musical- all of the "new" music was actually just stuff that was already written, but cut from the film.

I think anyone in a creative field who has ever struggled with the creative process before can empathize with the events of the film. Neither Walt or Travers was wrong- both had different perspectives on what would make the film work. It's hard to argue that Walt's final cut of the film is anything but a masterpiece, but it's very different in tone from the Travers stories.

Small correction - there were several new songs written for the stage musical, but none of them are by the Sherman Brothers (and no cut songs from the film were used). Stiles and Drewe, a British musical theater composing team, were hired to write the new songs for the show ("Practically Perfect", "Anything Can Happen", etc.).
