Could FLE be just the beginning?

I'd say that post #35 is the best post in this whole thread.

I'm going to be most logistical of the two sides. Can't we have a smaller convention at WWoS during the Anaheim one with special announcements and exhibits pertaining to WDW and locations on the east coast? It can be broadcast to the D23 Expo via satelite.

All true. But, it wasn't a "Disney" event.

There is no way that Disney, owner of 30,000 some odd hotel rooms in Orlando, is going to want to hold an event at a convention center that is in no way convenient to even one of those hotel rooms.

Disney would be able to handle it with ease, to think otherwise is foolish.

So anyway, hopefully Disney has a few more surprises in store as the economy recovers. I wonder if Tom Staggs will be able to change up TDO management? With any luck, he'll be as sick of dealing with them as we are...

I hope so I've been sick of them since 2007. After they gave up on the Yeti.

I just went to Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, and it had 35,000 in attendance and they handled it exceedingly well all things considered. The Orange County Convention Center was built to handle conventions of that size, as are the roads surrounding it. Celebration didn't even fill half the convention center.

Also, it would be silly to think that all those people would stay on Disney property. As they don't/can't stay at Disneyland for D23. WDW is very well suited for this convention.

As has been mentioned, Star Wars Celebration is not a Disney event.

The Orange County Convention Center is one of the largest convention centers in the country. It's nearly twice the size of the Anaheim Convention Center. The OCCC could handle D23 Expo, no problem.

But WDW property itself can not handle D23 Expo, even if you split it up between a dozen different properties at WDW, totally killing any decent vibe or energy that a convention wants to create even if it did all fit.

Disney is not going to ship their D23 Expo off-property and away from a major resort like WDW or DLR. Disney quite obviously looked at the facilities available in WDW and Orlando and realized it wasn't going to happen there, which is why they signed the contract for Anaheim through 2015. And it will only grow from there, as D23 Expo 2009 only used most of the Anaheim Convention Center and didn't touch an extra 200,000 square foot exhibit hall there, nor the big Disneyland Hotel convention center, nor any of the existing facilities in the parks like the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater. It was all under one roof at the Anaheim Convention Center, and that's where it will stay.

But a smaller D23 Destination D event that has sold out at the Disneyland Hotel could theoretically happen on WDW property, maybe for the 40th Anniversary celebration in 2011? http://d23.disney.go.com/expo/031010_EE_DestinationD.html

I always assumed it would be at Anaheim because WDI and management is nearby and DLR APs are crazy fans willing to pay and go.

At WDW, a bunch of tourists would not be D23 members or be interested in going- but it'd be foolish to say WDW couldn't handle it though... it has plenty of convention centers in the World and plenty of convention hotels.

Good news!... Virgin America just started non-stop service from Orlando to Los Angeles. Fares start at just $129 each way, and as a Virgin America Elevate member, I can tell you that it's the best way to fly in the USA today. Mod cabin lighting, mod cabin music, mod cocktails, mod stewardesses who are noticeably attractive and very charming, mod leather seats with mod seatback entertainment and wi-fi...

Virgin America would be a great, and rather cheap, way to get to the next D23 Expo, that's for sure.

Hold on! Can we talk about this picture some more? :lookaroun
