Could a New Park be on the Horizon?

Don’t know where people are thinking the Fox aqqusition is going to bring so many more possibilities to the parks. Most of the Fox movies are not suited for theme parks. Like a home alone ride? That sounds awful. The best they have is Alien and Predator but that won’t be getting rides anytime soon at Disney.

Don’t be expecting Fox at Disney World.

Here's the famous Fox properties. IMO, there's no way they could support a *Disney* theme park because the properties are too adult, not suited for theme-parkification, or just a lower quality than similar Disney IPs which haven't even been fully utilized yet. Though, it might make for a good competition in the Imagineering section of the forums to try. Also, we don't know if Fox had the theme park rights to all these IPs. Film rights don't always equal theme park rights.

Sounds like a whole lotta nothing from the Disney angle...

The reasons for this seems simple to me:
1. Gobble up a competitor
2. Keeps a competitor from gobbling up a xompetitor
3. Stuff for this great streaming service...apparently that will be ready in “May”
4. Hulu for #3

Uni filed for "Fantastic Worlds" a couple of days ago. Speculation is that - its is a part of "Project 314" (their new gate). Rumors everywhere about Middle Earth, Fantastic Beasts, Nintendo, and Jurrasic World being a part of it in many different combinations.

I agree that a Fox park or even a Fox land isn't in the cards right now but could see some properties like Ice Age, Planet, or Kingsman getting some attention at Disney. Be it attractions, M&G, or increased merchandising.

I'd add as a sweetener: Own the Avatar rights along with A New Hope. It wasn't the catalyst, but I'm sure it was icing.

So you're saying you don't think there will be a "Marley & Me" land?

I hope to God they don’t incorporate the Fox franchises into Disney parks. The Disney brand has been watered down enough with after-market IP purchases. Disney will soon become a distribution warehouse of IPs instead of innovative creator.

I doubt we will get a 5th gate, maybe once the whole marvel contract is settled with UNI but even then there will probably just be a land added onto DHS.

Now what seems more likely is that we alot of the rides will be re-themed..

Star Tours would make a great Independence Day ride and Planet Of The Apes could easily be themed into DAK somewhere.

How about they just build E.P.C.O.T. instead? Yeah it’ll never happen, but they’re probably in the best position than ever to do so. Have most of the “living areas” as resort hotels, select areas for rich fanatics to live (like Golden Oaks), a city district area for shopping and entertainment, a Walt Disney Mueseum, maybe a few select park attractions for an additional cost. Yeah that’ll never happen.....

Some would say that's already happened. OK *I* would say that's already happened.
I have a hard time understanding that line of logic. Disney, from the beginning with the exception of a few cartoons and cartoon characters almost always used someone else's creative properties to twist it into a Disney Movie, Animation or theme park ride. Disney didn't invent Cinderella, Snow White, Pinocchio, Brer Rabbit, Magical Nannies, 20K leagues under the sea, roller coasters, trains, boats, Monorails, imagination, sea life, energy, automobiles, and the list goes on and on. They were someone else's creations and Disney expanded and brought those ideas to life. A great task but that is where the innovation came in. They didn't invent computers, film, theater, movies or sound systems... they just figured out a way to use them better. Acquiring IP's is hardly a new thing. Yes, they did come up with new ways to display it, like Imagination, CoP, (speaking of which, Disney didn't invent history, they just found a very creative way to showcase it.) They still do that no matter what particular (dirty word coming up) IP they happen to obtain to use as a base for entertainment.

All that the additional Intellectual Properties they acquire can and probably will become a wealth of innovative and spectacular shows, movies and, yes, theme park attractions. Creative people are movable. They can transfer from one organization to another without losing that creativity. It is silly to think that it matters.

It's all about IP right now.

Funny how some people don't seem to realize that Disney has taken what was a simple theme park ride like Pirates and created a movie franchise with it. They've also tried to do that HM (albeit not a very good movie...but there are still rumblings about a reboot), did it for an entire land (Tomorrowland - again not a great attempt), doing it again for Jungle Cruise coming out in 2019.

Point being. Disney has a few IP's to work with. If they can aquire a few more IP's they have more to work with. People cheered the announcement of SWL (an acquired IP). But now that Fox is in the mix it's like: "No, we don't like that". It's very hypocritical. Me, for one, I'd welcome a Planet of the Apes type presence at AK. Hopefully it'd be an entire land.

could make great rides, but they are more a universal style than a disney

Mary Tyler Moore Show
Bob Newhart
WKRP
Hill Street Blues
MASH
Doogie Howser
these could have been a great ride or walk through attraction for the movie studio (history and how they were made) 10-20 years ago, now.. doesn't fit..

South Pacific
The Sound of Music
Hello Dolly!
Oklahoma
Carousel
this could make a great theater show

miracle on 34th street.. maybe something really cool at Christmas to replace the Osborne lights....

honestly I hope they don't use any of it in the theme parks especially the cartoons (family guy, simpsons, king of the hill)

Disney can't touch this IP for their United States theme parks currently. Simpsons theme park rights belong to Universal. I believe it expires some time in the next decade in terms of the theme parks Universal has in the states.

I don't know too much about the Asian Market with this IP outside of it being part being one of IPS rumored being used for Universal Studios Beijing. What I don't know if Simpsons theme park rights in Beijing expires at the same time as they do in Orlando and in Hollywood since the new theme park is supposed to open in 2020.

The only spots Disney could use Simpsons in theme parks for sure is their Paris theme parks and Tokyo. The only thing is I don't think Tokyo is going to use this IP since its a bad fit over there. I really question Simpsons in Disney's two theme parks in Paris due to what Disney announced for Walt Disney Studios theme park expansion.

By the time Disney can use the Simpsons for their theme parks, the tv show should over by then.

Indeed it would...

A Night at the Museum Restaurant

Would you like a softly-lit romantic meal of mammoth steaks with sides of cleverly updated basic human staples served by Teddy Roosevelt or an Indigenous Person from a bygone era?

Then come on down to the Museum Restaurant located in the old Launch Bay where the Animation Courtyard is reconfigured for modern L.A. look with a proper frontage of L.A. theaters and the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History.

The museum decor consists of hanging Pteradactyls, dinosaur skeletons, oversized dragon flies, giant dioramas, and all sorts of occasionally moving taxidermied fauna of the past -- and maybe a few Easter eggs from the Ice Age©.

Barrel Rapids

As part of a huge Tolkien Land in their new theme park "gate", guests travel down a raging rapids ride in a raft that looks like barrels lashed together reminiscent of the ones the dwarves used to escape their elven captors in Mirkwood, all the while menaced by spiders and orcs from above.
