Costume planning help for MNSSHP....

So I hadn't even been paying attention to the dates for the Halloween party because I just assumed it would be mid-late October and my trip ends October 2nd, but yesterday I noticed that it was going to be happening while we're there on September 30th! So anyway, this trip is the same week my best friend and her family are going to Disney (we coordinated it this way) and we are definitely going to all go to the MNSSHP together.

So we'll have 2 adult men, 2 adult women, and 5 children under the age of 7 (boy 6, boy 4, girl 4, girl 2, girl 1). We're trying to think of a good "theme" we can do for the whole group. So far our best idea has been 101 Dalmations. Dress all the kids as Dalmation puppies, I'd dress as Cruella, the 2 men would dress as Cruella's sidekids and my best friend would dress as the Nanny.

I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas for a large group. We were really struggling to find anything for so many people other than the dalmations.

Another question I have is about the weather. I have been to Disney in late September before, but I honestly can't remember what the temps were like at night. I'm assuming from 7 till midnight it will be around 65-ish? If we do Dalmations we were hoping to make our own costumes for the kids from hooded sweatsuits. Do you think that will be too hot? Should we try and do short sleeves?

You probably have a lot of "group" costume choices.

You could do the Peter Pan group with you and your girlfriend being Wendy and Tink, the dad's as pirates and the kids as lost ones...

Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland....any of them have fairly large casts.

Snow White, seven dwarfs (well, two not so dwarf) and a witch...

Toy Story characters...

When I first read this, I thought of the weather. Generally I would say that evenings in early Oct. are quite warm so plan your costumes on the light side. (You can always add leggings, underarmor etc if needed). My wife and I were down there at that time last year and the evening was quite warm, even for our shirts and shorts. We rode the monorail over to MK with a family where the dad had a full size Winnie the Pooh costume (like in the Disney catalog), and we felt so bad for him, he was pouring sweat by the time we got to the park entrance (his little guy had an eeyore costume that they got him out of, and mom was smart with just tigger ears and facepaint).

Plus as you will probably do some rides and whatever, you don't want something too bulky for movement purposes. Remember that the one "rule" they generally enforce is not to have a face covering mask on.

I think your idea is great! The only other thing that I can think of is Beauty and the Beast theme dressing up as Belle, Beast, Gaston, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, etc. or Snow White and seven dwarfs or Mickey and gang. But I like your idea better and it would definitely be easier for costume supplies. We were there once for the party and I remember it being hot at night. My daughter had on the deluxe Belle costume and it was hot! That being said, the weather can be crazy so I guess it could go either way. The parade is really good and the number of characters that don't usually come out was great. Also don't know if you'd be interested because it may get expensive with so many in your group, but the face painting station is mobbed that night and if you go early the dalmations could get their faces painted. I would assume they could do a dalmation face. My son had his face painted as a pirate and wore the Mickey Mouse pirate scarf hat that we got at the Pirates gift shop. I'm excited that you'll be there and know you'll have a great time!!

We were there this last Oct...right before Columbus Day. It was so hot! My youngest was Lilo and my oldest was Mulan. They had shorts and a tank on under their costumes and were dying all night and they are very lightweight costumes. We all have long hair and it was sticking to us! Hot and humid! Go as light as you can and allow room to layer. Remember to make them ride friendly as well! I saw so many little princesses walking around tripping over dresses and wearing platic princess shoes...my feet hurt for them. It is a late night for the young ones with a lot of activity. As kid friendly as possible...don't forget about bathroom time too!

It is a great night and worth every penny. We will not miss it!

Snow White, Prince Charming + 7 Dwarves...

or
Buzz, Woody, Jessie, Bo Peep + 5 little space aliens...

or
Mad Hatter, March Hare, Alice, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit, Tweedle Dee/Dum, Cheshire Cat, Dormouse...

We are going to do "The Incredibles" (my son's idea... he thinks he IS Dash)... as a family of 5 we are the perfect composition... the kids are 10, 7 and under 2... I am just a bit worried about putting this body into a SPANDEX costume... LOL... if I work out every day until Halloween... sigh!

Good luck to you!

Holly

P.S. When I was pregnant with my wee one, we did the Peter Pan thing... Maggie was Tink, Colin was Peter, my husband was Hook... and me? Well, with that figure, the only one I could be was Mr. Smee!

Highland_holly...you beat me to it. I was going to suggest a toy story theme, with the kids as aliens...except that besides buzz and woody, 2 of the adults could be Mr. and Mrs. Potato head...I guess the scene where the aliens say " you have saved our lives...we are eternally grateful" keeps popping to mind...and Mrs. P says "Lets adopt them!" :p :p :p

I've been there on the past 2 Halloweens and sweated my rear off, so take that into consideration with your costume.

I had thick red sweat pants on and long sleeve shirt & baseball cap, so that didn't help :D

I love the Toy Story idea! Never even thought to do the aliens! Thanks everyone for the tips. I'm sure we'll end up with something clever.
