wow, that isnt that bad, i mean if you are a major corporation. some corporations waste more money than that on the annual holiday party

just curious, how does disney inform the public that the park is closed that day. the only reason i ask, is once i drove to a park (not named) 2 hours away to find out that it was "band camp night". no kidding!!!! i swear i was so ed. i know i should have checked thier calender, it was my fault, but i was still mad!

(and yes, it was pre "American Pie" movie. otherwise i would have broken into the back entrance or started blowing a horn like fake petie to get into that party)

I can’t imagine them doing a private party during regular park hours (i.e. McDonald’s was after park hours) Could you imagine the riot that would erupt if they told forty thousand people that MK was closed today because Michael Jackson rented the park.

When I was there last month MGM closed at 6 pm on Friday night. I was staying at the Dolphin and at 11:00 I saw fireworks over MGM. I am assuming that is where the Pop Warner group had their big bash.

All Disney has to do is post the park hours - I did think it was odd that MGM would be closing so early on a Friday night, but it didn't occur to me that it was due to a private event until I saw the fireworks.

I know I have seen CM's getting ready for weddings that occur after park hours at MK. I always thought how magical that would be...sigh...expensive but magical!

I wonder what the amount would be for MK?!

I remember one time a person rented out the park for his company or something. I knew they ran Spectro just for them....

I know when I was looking through the wedding planning site for Disney one time - just to drool - they mentioned something like renting the castle court area for your wedding being in the ballpark of $4,000 - not including food or anything else. Just the location fee. And it was only available after the park closed for normal hours.

Magic Kingdom Weddings
Wedding events in the Magic Kingdom® Park are held after Park hours and are based on limited availability. These are considered "Premium" events and are priced differently than other wedding events. Minimum expenditure for Magic Kingdom events starts at $42,000. Please consult with your Wedding Sales Manager for further information on these very special options.
A wedding at the castle itself within MK itself would be hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nothing was included - not even park tickets nor rooms!

in September 01 during the MSEP/Sprctro switch, one very high ranking Apple Exec rented MK for a birthday party for a friend, running FiTS, Spectro, MSEP, and a private Cinderellas Ball written just for this event.... all to the tune of several Million $$$

Man, I wanna rent Epcot for the night and have them play IllumiNations. That would be so awesome...

That would be cool!

So everything is open when they rent out the park? Or do you have to pay for each land to stay open?

Good Point!!!! That was exactly what I was thinking!!!!! There is noooooooo way Disney would close their gates to the public, especially during peak season. The only time I could see them doing that would be during very slow seasons. Also, that 750,000, does that also cover employees wages for the day? I mean think about it there is noooo way Disney is going to pay all of their employees for a day in which they will be entertaining a private group!!!!! Personally, I think it has to be wayyyyy more than 750,000!!!!! Just think about how much MGM makes in a day while being open to the public!!!!! I assure you that during peak season it is much more than 750,000!!!

You probably figured this, but just in case, I'd like to point out that groups don't have to rent an entire park. Often one will rent a single attraction - for example, American Adventure; serve food in the rotunda, then maybe have special entertainment and/or character appearances as well as a special showing of the attraction.

The same can be done for an area; say Imagination / Land / Seas; or Tomorrowland (a frequent site, as is Sunset Blvd. with TOT and RNR)

Regarding $750,000.00

$750,000 is a number I heard from Tom Wolber's office (VP of Disney-MGM Studios). Disney can and has on numerous occaisions (sp) closed the parks early when an entity has rented them. All that is done is a nice folding sign is placed out front stating the hour that the park is closing. Generally, renting out a park for an entire day would be cost prohibitive which is why corporations only rent for four to five hours at a time and afterhours at that. The cost of renting Magic Kingdom is much higher. MGM is a tiny park when compared to The Magic Kingdom. MGM is bursting at the seams with 47000 guests and a busy day is 20000 guests. We all know that 20000 guests would constitute a pleasent crowd at the Magic Kingdom.

Park Events

While a CM I worked with Epcot Events (Conventions, Catering, Creative Ops, Signature Events, Special Events, Media, etc.) and we handled this daily. In my entire time at Epcot, we only closed the park, and I mean the entire thing, early once. That was for a huge Travel agent event, and it literally took over a year to start planning and communicating. WDW internally covered most of the cost for that shindig. I know the final price tag was in low 7 digit range.

Some events take place during park hours, ocassionally a Tomorrowland party or Fantasyland party will be given the okay, with proper dollars being guaranteed. Epcot will have events take place every day in certain venues. With the VIP lounges, more can take place with out guest concern. However some groups will have a whole guest venue to their use. I.E. American Adventure. The venues are available for fees, plus F&B minimums, guest minimuns, plus operations support, etc.

Seriously, if you ever want to have a group (private or pre-arranged) event, really you just need to have the numbers. They can make it happen.

I was at an after hours corporate event at MGM in October. They bused us into the back entrance - but we had to wait until the park was emptied after the 7:30 Fantasmic. A great evening. I got into the Hot Seat on Millionaire (well, there were only about 25 people there) and we basically ran through the lines to rides. And free food and drinks. Cool. 10:30 Fantasmic where I had the best seats I've ever had.

Last year they did MK from 7-11 PM. Sat on the curb on Main St. for SpectroMagic and my group was the only one there for 50 ft. on either side. They did FiTS even though Wishes had just started. They had to ask me to leave Buzz Lightyear at 11 ("We're closing; you have to leave" type of thing). It's a great way to spend an evening :)
