Cost of construction/operation?

Hi, does anyone know how much it cost to build each park or attraction? Basically I've been given a hypothetical budget of $40 million for a scenario and I'm not exactly sure how far it will go...any ideas? I just want to get a sense of what I can do with that amount of money. Thanks!

*If* you are talking about building a theme park...

Realistically you could buy some land, improve the infrastructure on it, build a few shops, bathrooms, food stands, a couple small spinny style fair rides, and *possibly* a small roller coaster. Really it would be more like a small fair or carnival than an actual theme/amusement park.

Just as an example the new roller coaster at Cedar Point, the Maverick, cost over 21 million alone.

Wow; thank you. I guess $40 million doesn't go a long way these days. Haha. I kinda gave up on that scenario; I have ideas, but I didn't actually figure out how much it would cost.

I read somewhere that it cost over $800,000,000.00 to build the Animal Kingdom. That is about twice what it cost to open the entire Walt Disney World resort in 1971. But $400 million in 1971 was a lot of change.

FYI, Maverick is located at Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minnesota. It is owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company which also owns Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio among other parks.

hmm

With 40 million you can prob run a very successfull smaller startup park.

We have a park here on Long Island called Adventureland wich is only 10 acres but is always packed.Has a very funny cheesy haunted house dark ride, and very small log flume, One of the best pirate ships around and a huss frisbee.(has more rides then that but i dont want to list all)

There is also a 70 acre amusement park that is starting out with 35 acres developed and is raising 75 million. (would get farther with 75 million in a cheaper state then the NYC metro area)

With 40 million it will not be disney by a long shot but it still could be very succesfull especially if there is no other parks in the area.

I would find it hard to believe AK only cost 1 Billion.

IOA which opened just a year later was projected to cost 1 Billion but a one time VP at Disney told me that the word on the street at the time was that there were terrible cost overuns for it and its final cost was closer to 2-3 billion.

I have heard a few times that there were cost overruns for either AK or AKL. Not sure if that is true however.

Two different parks. Half of Animal Kingdom is a zoo and Disney didn't have to spend that much on land improvement or construction costs. There aren't many rides in the park that would have cost that much to build. Islands of Adventure which included creating those massiveparking garages since they had to use the old parking lot was a massive undertaking. They built the water ways, high tech rides, theming, etc.

Nothing ever comes in on budget, especially something this size. If you do something half cocked you will end up with Hong Kong Disneyland.
