Cosmic Ray's Renovation This Year

I guess were in the minority here. We love to sit outside and see the castle. hear the sounds, and enjoy a good meal without the crowds. Too hot! then stay inside with the masses. I am for an upgrade and renovation, but to take away the outside seating is crazy. Its the only CS that has it with a view IMHP. It gives our family a little time away from the noise and calamity of MK. If there is no outdoor seating, cross it off our list. Take Take Take Take! Whatever happened to enjoying the surroundings. Benn ther both hot and cold times, and the inside just sucks all around!

Agreed.

The CM didn't say where the whole place would be closed/renovated, but definitely Bay 3 and over... So I could see them doing just that section. Unless they are planning on upgrading the theming and then they would eventually upgrade the whole place.

I personally don't see them closing the whole place in Sept, unless they can do everything in just a few weeks. They need all the restaurant space they can use rolling into Halloween and more importantly Christmas...

FWIW, I am thinking Bay 3 and the nearby outdoor seating is on the Tomorrowland Speedway side, not the castle side "balconies" to which you are referring. If I have it backwards, then I would definately miss the old balconies, have enjoyed many a meal out there myself, but I'll give them a chance to see if they can do something even better.

I really dont know the Bays either but I hope they dont close in the balcony outside seating next to the castle. My family and I love eating out there. It doesnt even matter if its hot or not. Its so beautiful to eat your lunch and see the castle right in front of u!! Its Magical!!!!!

I hear they've converting part of Cosmic Rays into a secret loading area during evening EMH, where resort guests will get secret refillable mugs with RFID chips in them that allow you to get your soda refill at Rays and then board the monorail with the RFID chip opening the monorail door.:hammer:

I'm in the boat with everyone that loves the outside seating. It's an incredibly beautiful place to sit. In early December when we usually go for our family trip, the days are absolutely beautiful (mid-high 70s) and this is an amazing and unique view of the MK.

I think putting the entire menu in one area so that families do not want to wait in two or three lines to get what they want is a no-brainer. The entire concept of three lines for one venue is ridiculous. Hopefully this will indeed happen.

As long as when they close it, WDW then bulldozes the entire building and it is never heard from again - that seems like a workable plan.

While our kids kinda enjoy the place, I can't stand it there. It opens at 11:00am....well, just one or two bays open at 11:00am. And if it's busy, you get your food and then wait for a cast member to tell you that you can sit down (now that your food's cold).

Additionally, on our last trip a few weeks ago, we had the most offensive service experienced in the 20 yrs that we've been going to DW. It only reinforced my lack of love for that place. While we always celebrate great service and wonderful cast members, this is this first time we'll actually complain to Disney Guest Communications.

I remember when it used to be great when the live entertainment used to come up from the floor (1980's?), now just some dumb puppet telling the same jokes visit...after visit....after visit. Mediocre service and ok food.

So sorry to those who I may have offended!

Good day all. It is my first post here after years of lurking. I used to work at Tommorowland and one summer at Cosmic's shortly after their extreme makeover from TLT and I do hope the changes are for the better. The area still has the 1994 vibe and while they got rid of the rug and changed some of the seating arrangement it is pretty much stuck in the 90's. Honestly I'd rather have the 70's orange scheme. Sonny Eclipse needs an update. I don't even recall if the stage can still be raised up, sorry I haven't seen a band there since the 90's (they had a Latin cover band singing "Conga" and other hits) but that would be great if they use it again kind of like the Epcot Sounds Like Summer series.

The toppings bar needs to be renovated as well. There was a time that I worked the toppings bar during the "wannabe Miami Subs" era when they served cheese steaks and people compensate for the lack of cheese in the sub by abusing the cheese sauce at the bar. Also someone asked for a plate, filled it up with mushrooms, squirted the colored ketchup (I don't remember, was it green ketchup or orange - the mayo was blue) all over it and ate it with a fork!

I hope that if they renovate cosmic rays that disney gets Kal David back into the studio to update Sonny's playlist.

I dunno, they might bring in the guy that redid the TTA narration to record something nice and safe (read boring, bland, and ruinous) for Sonny.

Cosmic Ray's could use a little bit of renovation that is for sure, but to close the restaurant entirely would not be smart. Glad to hear that this is in the works though. It is after all the second busiest restaurant in the ENTIRE WORLD (as in Earth...not just Walt Disney World). #1 being a McDonald's in Europe somewhere.

I wish they'd find a new place for the unused toppings bar. They're up by Sonny, and it makes the area look kinda cheap. I also think they need to theme/hide/plus the speakers/pa rack thing up on the stage.
