I'm trying to remeber the correct locations of the non-built World Showcase pavillions. I believe the full WS would be as follows, clockwise:

Mexico, Costa Rica, Norway, China, Equatorial Africa, Russia, Germany, Israel, Italy, USA, Japan, Switzerland, Morroco, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada

Am I correct? Close? Has anyone heard differently? I know it isn't happening, I just wanted to ensure I was correct.

ok, im confused! are these places that have yet to be built, or were original ideas? or is this just a random "if-they-could-heres-how-it-could-be" things? :veryconfu

They were never built, but some had "coming soon" signs in front of their respective locations. Sadly they all are collecting dust in the WDI vault and some (like Switzerland and Africa) will never be built due to Animal Kingdom (EE took the place of the Matterhorn).

So that means I had the correct spot for Africa, but Spain would have been on the opposite side of WS than I thought. Thanks!

For the 1982 World Showcase, it was something like Mexico, Denmark or Costa Rica, Norway or Denmark, China or Costa Rica, Equitorial Africa, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, America, Israel, Morocco, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Russia and Canada.

Denmark has shown twice on different plans as you can see, as has Costa Rica. Switzerland was placed on the South East shore to a) share filtration systems with Germany and Italy and b) to balance out the skyline with Mount Fuji. The International Gateway was never proposed to have a country since France and the UK are next to each other in the real world and the canal (later to Crescent Lake) was symbolic of the English Channel.

I always thought Spain and France were supposed to be near each other, there's a section on the ground near there that I believe was supposed to represent the strait of Gibraltar.

That symmetry with Fuji and Matterhorn makes sense.

I always wondered why about half of World Showcase was left out...maybe after they finish with Future World, they will finally move to World Showcase, but I'm not holding my breath.

Even think with just one more addition to world showcase would tremendously boost park attendence...but I will not hold my breath either.

I'm just curious, but is there a reason why the differnt lands weren't done more geographicll?

I have no idea why each country was placed where it was. I disagree; I don't believe adding another country would do much if anything for park attendance, unless it contained some new amazing attraction!

well it would limit any future additions, wouldn't it? What would you put between the UK and France? An aquarium?

I thought about that. Realisticly though, they had all the pavillions planed out before they built it. There is only so much land back there. i don't think much else would have fit if it had opened with every provillin they had planned for.

Hi all - I took the backstage magic tour on May 1st and our guide (Nancy) told us that there was room for four (4) more countries to be added to world showcase. In order to add a country a company that is headquarted in the country must sponsor the construction, upkeep, etc. We were told that Disney keeps trying, but they have not been able get large companies to take on the financial responsibility. :(

If they tried to make it geographically correct, they would either have to put it on a big ball or spread it out like one of those huge maps of the world. Then it would be a lot harder to have the U. S. A. right in the middle of the whole thing.
