Overwhelmed hospitals is a ploy. I have a friend who is an independent travelling doctor. He's licensed to work in multiple states. He works ERs and directly with COVID patients, when he's working. Right now, he's worried about getting work. He has only been able to book one week of the next three months. He is the exact type of doctor that would be called to fill a gap, if a hospital was short handed.
You know what they found when New York was a near warzone?

Fear of the virus kept people who otherwise may have been at the hospital away. Not saying that’s definitive...but something to consider.

Yeah I also heard everyday they were going to run out of beds and ventilators. Didn’t happen. They brought in a ship. Didn’t need that either,

You missed the part where cuomo explained that.

“Blame me. You want to say I overreacted? I’ll take the blame. You make choices that give you the best chance to succeed”

It was about 6 weeks ago. Can’t lead from behind.
No rational human makes a big deal about that. And then those resources moved on.

So. We have emergency plans during flu season too.
ones that include deciding who gets the chance to live and who doesn't???

again, I'm convinced people want to see pictures of hospitals overflowing with bodies before they admit there's a problem.

I think people have this idea that hospitals being overwhelmed or at 100% capacity is some rare phenomenon. Our population increases 30% in the Winter combine that with a bad flu season and it turns into a war zone. We hold patients in the ED for days. We also bring in hundreds of traveling nurses to deal with the surge. That has happened yet. It may or it may not. All of our rooms are private with the capacity to hold two patients. We haven’t had to double up. Our biggest issue is staff, but if you offer enough money nurses will come. NY hospitals paid 10k a week.

I don't want to leave the impression that we shouldn't take COVID seriously. I plan to visit my family over the 4th weekend. I'll have multiple family members that are in high-risk situations. I will be wearing a mask, and my kids will be wearing masks, whenever we are in close proximity to them. I am far more conscious of putting my hands close to my mouth. I wash my hands often, and I make my kids do the same. COVID is a NASTY disease, and is a good wake-up call for good hygiene, taking special care of the elderly and high-risk individuals, and investing in our healthcare capabilities.

You should give everyone the same consideration.

AZ just asked Pence for 500 nurses

Yep...Mickey would never have germs...

Sounds like Publix is doing the right thing at least: "Publix reportedly offers paid leave for 14 days for employees who test positive for the virus. They also notify and give paid leave up to 14 days to workers who have been in "close contact" with infected staffers."

I'm sure Mickey will do better.
