The way the governor of MA was talking the other day, it seems like they're going to do everything in their power to get kids back to school up here. I don't know 1) how they think that's reasonable, 2) how they could possibly guarantee the safety of children and by extension, the families they live with, 3) how they think parents are even willing to send kids, given the wide range of potentially severe symptoms carried by this virus.
Agreed. The PA governor called the school year a week ago. Distance learning sucks, but it is what it is. It would make no sense for Florida schools to go back considering they are done in May anyway.

I don't really see social distancing working all that well. The buses, monorails, and boats are all a big problem.

How would WDW load a scooter onto a bus/monorail w/social distancing? How frustrating would it be to wait for buses that can only hold a fraction of the guests they normally hold?

How long would it take to load the monorail w/social distancing? How long would it take to get everyone back to the resorts at park closing via buses when everyone has to stay 6 feet apart?

Also, if my recent shopping excursions are any example, well, most folks were making some effort, but some appeared to be very confused by simple protocols.

I got stuck behind multiple zombie shoppers who - my gosh - kept stopping every 2 feet and completely zoning out. Like deer in the headlights. I kid you not, one shopper spent 5minutes just staring at the ONLY TWO types of soy sauce (light or regular), and didn't even pick one! Then she turned and zoned while staring at the TWO types of pasta in stock: spaghetti or twists. Just PICK ONE! I was quietly patient, but it was excruciating, as I was supposed to just stay behind waiting. Many shoppers were similarly overwhelmed and indecisive. It was like a zombie movie.

Anyhow, I'm just thinking of the MANY WDW visitors who are confused by simple concepts like:
the words "RETURN time" printed on a FP
folks who get mad because they think FP = line cutting
Or the MANY folks who can't answer the very simple, "How many people are in your party?"

It's my personal opinion that the whole 6 feet apart social distancing thing is not why cases have dropped. I believe they've dropped because of the shelter in place orders.

They are two VERY different things.

I don't think trying to keep people 6 feet apart while in open air or large buildings will do much good. Does the virus die instantly after moving 6 feet away from it's host? Who has done the wind speed calculations? If it's windy shouldn't it be more like 12 ft apart?

If this study that was recently done is any indication, 6 feet apart is pointless.

Covid19 cough spread simulation

So if we assume that it's staying 6 feet apart doesn't do much good, well that changes everything. Maybe requiring masks would be less of a logistical nightmare, and more effective.

Just coming up with rules that make sense is difficult enough. Getting people to follow those rules...impossible. Especially guests at WDW. I still think they may try it, but I’m skeptical it goes well.

The six feet rule comes from the medical experts like Fauci. So probably a good question for them. They may have already answered it at some point.

I would be less worried about pushing buttons and more worried about riding in an elevator filled with strangers. They could just put hand sanitizer stations on each floor by the elevator or staircase doors. When you exit the stairs or elevator just wash your hands. There’s nothing you can do if an infected stranger coughs or sneezes in the elevator with you.

Remember in the before-times, when a number of folks talked about germs on hotel room remote controls, glassware, phones, door handles, bathrooms, and everything else in their hotel rooms? Now imagine a person like that traveling through WDW in the after-time.

I'm suddenly picturing WDW visitors perpetually wrapped in PPE in place of plastic ponchos.

If the PPE is good enough, it might even keep us from getting wet on Splash!

Wasn't that a quaint thread topic just...like a month ago? Someone asking how to ride Splash without getting soaked?

Yup, this one was started on March 1:

While many suspect that infections of CV are higher than reported due to the lack of consistent testing, the amount of which it is underestimated needs *a lot* more testing before it is known. You can't compare an unknown ratio of infected:death to the flu if you still aren't sure of the number infected. All you can do is compare deaths to deaths for now.

The study quoted above is only a start and may have issues...

Right now, Germany has begun a true scientific study where a randomized sample of the country is getting regular testing. Result won't be know for months.

That's only a problem if they're the only ones to open. When everything opens at roughly the same time, what are people going to do post pictures of every public crowded place in the country?
This is true. In the Orlando area alone there are plenty of similar things that would also be problematic. I also think sports could have been a good indicator of when it’s safe to open from a CYA prospective. If it’s safe to be in an arena with 20K people it’s safe to go to Fantasmic. Unfortunately it looks like sports leagues won’t be opening anytime soon with people in the stands.

In your dreams.... there is no way everyone opens roughly qt the same time. Plus, WDW opening would be seen as a cultural milestone and would gather far more public scrutiny than a minor tourist attraction elsewhere in Florida.

We'll agree to disagree. Once one state starts really opening up, many of the others are going to follow suit very quickly. These cities are losing out in millions of tax dollar revenue and they're going to want to open up as soon as possible.

Yes, we will agree to disagree because you believe a short term economic assessment will drive behavior and I believe many larger companies (and States) will recognize that the dangers of rushing to open up create serious dangers in respect of second and third infection spikes that create much more economic damage.

Dangers based on current information that is ever changing and appearing to be getting better with each passing day.

This is the way I feel in daily life, particularly in supermarkets.
I feel like I'm processing information at a rate several times faster than everyone around me.

Six feet is probably based on a general indoor space where a cough or sneeze of an infected person isn't rocketed directly at an uninfected person.

My province (BC) has basically said today that all
large scale events will not likely happen this summer. So the PNE, Pride, Fireworks Festival etc. PNE has already released a statement on how in their 110 years they’ve been through two wars, a Great Depression etc. and they will be back for us to celebrate and have fun again soon.
PNE? Preston North End?
