I just came here to wonder when ticket and hotel prices will drop at WDW. We canceled our European River cruise so a local trip might be in our future.

A well known international restaurant giant just cancelled its worldwide convention due end of April. Was at Orlando convention centre with guest staying both in Disney and Uni plus other properties in and around the area.

I feel this virus is like crappy overpriced service at Disney. No matter what, the people will keep comin'.

I recall reading a number of years ago that McDonalds when coming to Orlando in the news for their big convention that the CEO awoke one evening during the week long event in his hotel room complaining of chest pains. He died of a heart attack.

I just read a tweet: “Look to your left, look to your right. By September, only one will be here.”

Look I’m all for taking this seriously and doing whatever is possible to prevent the spread, but seriously? Majority of the casualties aren’t random. You’re hysterical if you think it is.

Admittedly, I had a similar thought last week, but I kept it to myself. I was looking at my husband and my son and thinking, 'I hope we're all here at the end of the year." I quickly chided myself, because it's irrational. I am slightly worried for my husband, though. He was diagnosed with shingles this week and he is on meds that are suppressing his immune system. I tell myself that his doctor wouldn't have prescribed something like that if he thought it was risky.

New information on Disney Cruise Line -

"Disney Cruise Line today shared with travel advisors a new cancellation policy and updated measures it’s taking regarding coronavirus (COVID-19).

Guests scheduled to sail between now and May 31, 2020 can now change their reservation up until the day before embarkation and receive a 100% cruise credit to be used for a future sailing within 12 months of their original sail date. The credit is non-refundable and standard prevailing rates will apply."

"Beginning March 6, all guests and crew members will have their temperature checked by a nurse with a no touch thermometer prior to boarding. Additional medical screenings will be required for anyone with a temperature of 100.4º F or greater, and they along with their travel party may be unable to sail.

For cruises with a port of call in Nassau or Castaway Cay, DCL noted that The Bahamas will not allow anyone to disembark in any Bahamian port if they have been to China, South Korea, Italy or Iran in the past 20 days prior to arrival. These guests and Crew Members may be able to sail but will be unable to visit The Bahamas."
While the cancellation policy is good? I'm FAR more impressed with the SCREENING upgrades.

Now, this sort of thing would be very hard to do at the Parks. HOWEVER - the technology to use fairly common Security Cams to "alert" on body temp does exist. I could see this being of value, in the now improved Security Lines.

On the other hand - I'm thinking like a Scientist - not a Lawyer. A Lawyer MIGHT say that introducing this technology could open up Disney to lawsuits, if the technology is not 100% effective :(. Good technology is not always good business :(.

I’d just take precaution. It’s not a Mario Kart item roulette where getting the Blue shell means you’re a goner.

Thank you for posting this. While it is possible to get infected from being across the room from somebody or being in an elevator with them, it is far more likely to be infected if you live in the same house with an infected person or work/go to school at a desk next to them where you are near them for prolonged periods of time.

You don't automatically become infected if one virus particle gets into your system. Any viral or bacterial infection needs a critical mass to infect you. In people in good health and with healthy immune systems, it takes more viral particles to cause an infection.

Take a common cold for example. When somebody has a cold in a class or workplace, every single other person doesn't catch a cold.

Very well said.
If this wasn't true, then nearly every contagion like the annual flu and common cold would really wreak havoc.
Huge swaths of populations would be infected quickly.

So possible just walking around at Disneyland/World, far more likely in line.

You'd need to be in line quite close to an infected person coughing or sneezing.
Or to grasp things, handrails etc. that they grasped, and then touch your mouth nose or eyes.
Even then, that doesn't mean you're going to catch it.

SXSW Cancelled now as well.

And while not as big, but still interesting, I found out this morning that the HIMSS conference has been cancelled as well.
