Our recent experience with COVID.

To give a little context, my wife is a labor and delivery nurse who is fully vaxxed and boosted in September (Pfizer). I am fully vaxxed and boosted in October (Moderna). My 13 yo was fully vaxxed in July (Pfizer). My 11 yo was fully vaxxed in December (Pfizer).

Fast forward to this past week.

Our oldest came down with a low grade fever last Thursday and started to have a mild cough. We kept her home and conducted 3 at home tests Thursday, Friday, Saturday, a PCR test for her and I Thursday and all came back negative. She still had a low grade fever on Sunday so we took her to the urgent care to be checked out by a doctor. The urgent care ran another rapid antigen test which was again negative and they also sent off another PCR test which was also negative.

On Monday, our youngest started to exhibit cold like symptoms (mild sore throat, slight cough, a little stuffy) and we gave her an at home test which was negative. On Tuesday she still had symptoms so I gave her another at home test which came back positive. She and I then went to the local testing location and both got PCR tested. While we were awaiting the results, my wife got rapid PCR tested on Wednesday, which was negative. Today we received the PCR results for my daughter which was positive for COVID and mine was negative.

This all leads me to wonder if the tests that are used today, both PCR and rapid antigen, are sensitive enough to detect Omicron or should testing be done in another way such as swabbing the throat.

In the end, my oldest has recovered and is back to normal and our youngest has only had very mild cold like symptoms and is already better. My wife and I have not experienced any symptoms.

My girlfriends son tested negative twice at home before finally showing positive on the 3rd home test (5th day) and then getting it verified by a PCR test, he had cold like symptoms the whole time but that’s it, he was testing because his sister is pregnant, he was fully vaxxed and recovered quickly. He was spending Christmas with the family the whole time up until he tested positive.

If you don’t mind me asking why did you take so many tests? Was it pure curiosity or did the positive test change how seriously you quarantined, responded also?

I ask because it seems a lot of people are using these tests to determine how to respond and it’s very alarming how poor the results seem to be.

Thankfully neither my Gf, her daughter, or her son in law got sick but had the tests picked it up sooner they’d have spent 4 less days with a positive person.

I’m not sure testing is doing a whole lot of good at this point.

The canaboid acid that might help against COVID...

1. Is not a cure. Slowing down the virus can be helpful, but, it doesn't stop the virus dead.
2. Is not the psychoactive substance that gets one high. Smoking weed is not a prophylactic nor a cure.

Seriously, though, weed (and the non-psychoactive CBD) is the new snake oil.

I don't think you know much about the health care industry. Other than maybe plastic surgeons, very few healthcare providers could bring in enough revenue without accepting Medicare. Certainly no hospital could survive financially.

An independent doctor who didn't want to be vaccinated but owns their own practice can just not enforce the rule. CMS isn't going to be auditing every single practice in the country.
All of this. I'm sure some independent practices will go unnoticed without whistleblowers in their patient or employee population. Unless their providers have privileges in a CMS hospital and said system comes down on them before the feds do.

Any hospital I've worked or studied in, private or state, gets well over 50% and upwards of 70% of their revenue from CMS streams. That's not the feeding hand they're going to be willing to bite.

Yes, I agree vaccines have worked for us, but the tests I think need to be improved in some way. I am very skeptical that my oldest was actually negative (even after 4 at home and two PCR tests) and very surprised my wife and I are negative (even being asymptomatic) when you hear just how many breakthrough cases there are.
It’s incredibly frustrating and bizarre. Seems that some individuals that catch omicron carry their viral load in their mouths/throat and not their nose, thus why a lot of people are getting the same false negatives such as you family’s. Glad you guys are doing well.

And my concern... it's that little line "in companies that receive Medicare , Medicaid funding".

So how to bail? Stop taking Medicare , Medicaid  .
No hospital or healthcare facility currently participating in CMS funding is going to stop participating due to a vaccine requirement. The reason they are participating is to stay financially stable. Well…mostly stable.

Whistleblowers are strictly taboo for example to ones in control and power who don't want the truth out. That has been very prevalent in the last several years. Unfortunately whistleblowers are at times silenced and have had their lives made a living nightmare for being a whistleblower.

On the positive side, it indicates that Omicron has an even lower rate of severe illness than we know. With all of the false negatives combined with people who don't even get tested there are probably at least 3 times the number of infections than there are cases. A huge number of people have likely been infected over the past month that aren't accounted for which means the rate of serious illness is miniscule compared to the prior variants.

I hope this forecast is wrong because when some wish their lives be back to normal but instead it will be the new normal.
I wish the pandemic will be ending by mid 2022 or end of 2022. If the virus will continuing mutating less deadly for years like flu. Then masks will be gone for good for public like planes, trains, buses, and more.

Anyways. The other day I made a joke about how long the shipping will be for the 4 free Covid tests you can order from the government. Well apparently they will take 7 to 12 days to even ship once ordered. Kinda lame. I guess they will be good for the next wave. 🤷‍♂️
I heard 2-3 weeks. I’ll go with what you heard.

I'm worried about next wave if virus is maturing more as even worse by Spring or Summer to make the pandemic longer...:eek::eek: is
next wave is really gonna happen or not?

The mortality rate of COVID-19 is just slightly lower than the 30%+ (up to 75% estimates) of the "actual" plague.

It's like touching a warm teacup is to touching a hot stove burner. Not remotely the same thing.
It was a sign at a restaurant. It was a funny ha ha. Personally I have never taken advice from signs on the street. Sorry you didn’t see any humor in it. Wow.

Eh you never know, you might be one of the later getters of covid and need it then. We'll order and share the wealth for anyone who needs tests here. Though at the rate we are going for classroom notifications we might be needing them for a while. Just when I thought my county hit their peak they surprised me. Don't know if there was a backlog of tests or not as it was significantly higher than any other days (happened a week or so before too).
