And now there's gym owners in NJ offering free membership to people that don't get the vaccine. Hopefully that doesn't trend.
It’s 1 gym owner. The same idiot who defied the state and kept his gym open when it should’ve been closed.

The same idiot who got banned from American Airlines for refusing to wear a mask on the plane on his way back from CPAC in February.

The same idiot who has been in jail for killing someone while driving drunk.

He’s quite a human.

He also has made a public spectacle of himself and it’s likely that anyone who doesn’t think like him (which is the vast majority of the country) is unlikely to want to patronize his business. So why not go all in and attract like minded customers, they are all he is going to get.

New York's Covid vaccine passport:

I downloaded the app and tried it. It properly identified my vaccination status quickly. Certainly not easy to "forge." You'd have to steal someone else's vaccination health information, and then you would need a photo ID matching the person you stole from. Not impossible, but much easier to just get the vaccine.

For now, it appears it will be used at larger venues like sports stadiums, as well as for things like weddings. My daughter's Bat Mitzvah is finally happening, and we were basically told we would need to use the passport if we wanted to have more than 50 guests.

I wonder to what degree businesses will be encouraged to voluntarily require the passport.

I can actually imagine bars being allowed to operate at full un-masked capacity if they check the passport, just like they normally check IDs. Unlike a restaurant or regular entertainment venue which will include kids who aren't even eligible for the vaccine, a bar that is 21+ could ban anyone unvaccinated, using the passport to check. And a gathering of people that are 100% vaccinated should be safe maskless.

I still find it doubtful anything like this passport will be rolled out nationwide. But with the quickening pace of vaccination, if a national passport is to get any headway, you'd start to see it in the next 30 days.

What did it match against to know you were vaccinated?

It sounds like it wasn't just data you submitted, but something it already knew that you matched to.

Without downloading it, it’s hard to tell what it’s really doing from the reporting.

Obviously, the state is collecting the data at time of vaccination appointment.
I put in my full name, DOB and Zip code. It then confirmed the date, location and time that I received my vaccination.

When I went through the process, it actually told me I wasn't yet eligible for the passport because it has not yet been 2 weeks since my 2nd dose. (So I'm eligible in 1 week).

It's Just A Test! I will now duck as there will be crossfire.

"NEW YORK (AP) — State officials have launched a digital pass New Yorkers can download to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

The Excelsior Pass will be accepted at major entertainment venues like Madison Square Garden and Albany’s Times Union Center.

The app is similar to a mobile airline boarding pass and uses a secure QR code that can be stored in a smartphone or printed out. Officials said the technology doesn’t store or track private health data within the app.

“New Yorkers have proven they can follow public health guidance to beat back COVID, and the innovative Excelsior Pass is another tool in our new toolbox to fight the virus while allowing more sectors of the economy to reopen safely and keeping personal information secure,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement."

I assume they will use it for Mets and Yankees games since they are requiring a negative test or proof of vaccination to get in.

Hot take: I don't mind the idea of vaccine passports but I'm well aware that it's divisive and will create even more inequities
On the subject of inequities it will really create inequities if they (very likely) are restricted to only specific vaccine manufacturers, screwing many in other countries from being able to travel freely.

I.e. many in South America are receiving Sinovac and maybe Sputnik vaccines. Iceland proposed "vaccine passport" asks for Pfizer, Moderna, AZ or J&J at the moment. So the kid in Chile who was maybe hoping to study in the EU but got the Sinovac vaccine because that's all they offered is potentially SOL.

Well it looks like Joe IS weighing the idea of vaccine passports. What effect this'll have on WDW is unknown
Probably a good one. Personally I won't go near wdw for a long while because...floriduh. They crazy. BUT that would change if vaccines become required. If Vaccines were required to visit wdw, that would mean everyone has some protection against the virus making it a safer environment. Plus, the people who actually get the vaccines/ follow protocols are todays meaning of respectful, meaning we would probably be surrounded by respectful people, not entitled meanies.

You said you won’t go near WDW for a while...why? Assuming you have gotten or are about to get the vaccine, why stay away once you’re vaccinated? Yes, you could technically still get infected. However, the vaccines prevent severe cases requiring hospitalization or death. Personally, I’m planning on taking a vacation as soon as I’m in the clear with my dose(s).

If they are talking about rolling out vaccine passports now, what about people who are under the age of 16? Maybe some companies could simply say "adults only," but that certainly wouldn't work for a company like Disney. Surely there would have to be exceptions made for kids until vaccines are generally available to them. (Not saying I'm in favor of vaccine passports, just posing the question.)

You’ve been bragging about how you haven’t followed any of the rules the whole time. So what’s the appeal?
I've "bragged" about how I don't follow the Fauci/CDC "recommendations." To this point, I have followed all "rules." I even wear an annoying mask everywhere required including feeling like I was being smothered exercising on vacation in Las Vegas.

Two weeks after my second shot I fully intend to stop following many rules unless I go somewhere like WDW for leisure or when I fly and the only reason I will follow the rules in the latter is because the airline can put me on a do not fly list if I don't.

You will continue to follow all the rules that a business says.. if it’s wearing a mask , you will or go somewhere that doesn’t require it. You will be subject to the distance regulations whether in a theme park or store or restaurant.. if not you will probably be escorted out no matter how much you yell I’ve been vaccinated. I’m wondering what rules “ you fully intend to stop”? You already don’t follow the “ recommendations “ which I’m guessing mean gatherings and such so what rules are you going to stop?

For one, I'll be shopping in Publix with no mask. I know their policy is that only a manager can say anything and only if a customer complains first. Even then, they won't force you or kick you out if you decline.

I won't wear one going into a restaurant and I know the restaurants I frequent won't make me.

Mask mandates and capacity requirements remain firmly in place where I live, so the concepts of shopping or dining out maskless seem so foreign. I'm looking forward to being v2+2 soon, and then will relax some of my personal interactions with other v2+2 folks. But I have a 13 year old, so will have to factor her unvaccinated status into plans going forward.

Mulling over an idea is not implementation. The NY vaccine passport test ceased being a "vaccine" passport when the COVID test caveat was put in. Right now the most viable "passport" available is the CDC card that is received when a person is vaccinated other than that Meh.
